A big well done to all the childminders out there. You all do a fantastic job. I know it can be a difficult job at times taking on the role of a Carer, First Aider, SENCO, Safeguarding Lead officer, Data protection officer, teacher. But the joy the job brings outweighs the difficulties.
You are all amazing π

What a busy June. Xx
Maybe you have some sensory diet activities in mind or know what sensory needs need addressed in a child with sensory processing challenges. Here are ideas for setting up that sensory diet and getting the activities scheduled:

And here we are the 2nd of July, the last 6 months have flown by. The children have 3 weeks left of the academic year. They are excited about finishing school for the summer holidays but also feeling anxious regarding the new transition in changing classes, starting nursery or school. Children's behaviour can become unsettled as they try to deal with the feelings they are experiencing. Please ensure your talking to your child regarding their fears and emotions to help them understand.
I'm sending you all my love and hugs
On the way to school yesterday we came across a little baby Robin on the path, the poor thing nearly got squished by a child's foot. So with the excitement of the children we did our good deed of the day and scooped him up and put him in the shrubbery to find his way back to the nest. Although he didnt want to leave my hand π¦π¦ββ¬
23 summer activities to do in 2023 Read our top 23 free, fun and imaginative summer activities to do at home or outside. Our creative summer family activities will keep your children entertained and happy all day long.
Yesterday the children started off with colour recognition with painting using brushes that progressed to hand painting and exploring textures of the paint. They moved onto mixing the colours from one pot to another improving their fine motor skills by accurately pouring from one tub to another and producing a new colour. The children then transported the paint into the water to make yet another colour. Lots of wows, ooh and modeling language. We did have a bit of hair dying in the process. ππ
The little ladybirds had a lovely time on Wednesday meeting up with their friends from Kyley's kids childminding. We had a lovely walk, risky play, picnic, mini beast hunt. ππ
The month of May for the Ladybirds πwas a busy time for being out and about. Developing our risky play, what we could do independently and asking for help when needed. Some lovely team work, taking turns and sharing. π
Little bit of a woodland walk today, climbing logs, balancing, looking for mini beasts, feeling different textures of bark, making noises with sticks on tree trunks and a ride on the log train. π
What a lovely day for a beautiful walk, picnic, running, looking at flowers, dancing, making music and seeing the horses and sharing these magic moments with our friends at Kyley's Kids Childminding. β₯οΈ
The children had a lovely time last week building imagination in the castle and with small world toys to celebrate the kings coronation. We had kings, queens, princes, princesses, butlers and the police protecting them. Lovely little tea party with Kyley's kids childminding with lots of dancing and fine motor skill building. π€΄ππΈ
All ready for our celebration of the Kings coronation. ππΈπ€΄
March was a busy month developing fine motor skills, making special gifts for lovely mommies and a main focus on turn taking and sharing. With the added bonus of a snow day to make many happy memories πβοΈβ
Awesome info on how to talk to kids about food!

Did you know that a 3-year old (top left image) and a 6-year old (top right image) have significantly different skeletal structure in their hands?! Notice the bones in the wrist of the 3-year old -- many of them are still mostly cartilage! Look at all the spaces in between the bones where muscles and tendons will change through the years. Even the difference between a 6-year old and a 14-year old (lower right) is huge!
Preschoolers have SO much development to do before they can write the way school-aged children or adults can!
Please do NOT stress if your preschooler does not want to write or draw. Some love it and some don't.
While they are growing, strengthen those little bones and muscles! Here are some great pre-writing, muscle-strengthening activities:
* painting, drawing, coloring
* playdough
* tearing and cutting
* gluing
* poking holes in things (try toothpicks and paper!)
* digging in dirt
* building with LEGOS, marble runs, or other blocks
* beading (try beads, cut straws, or even bobbins!)
* puzzles
* squeezing (try stress balls, squeezing water in a sponge, or using a pipette)
* picking up and throwing balls (use different sizes!)
* playing with toys (watch what their little fingers do when they pick up and move little cars, marbles, action figures, etc!)
These all strengthen and help develop little hands, muscles, and bones. When they are physically ready to write, it will be so much easier than if they were pushed when they didn't want to and weren't ready!
Louder for the people at the back! π£
Just to remind everyone who is tempted to start clearing their gardens ready for Spring. Please be aware of hedgehogs in winter hibernation, under hedgerows, borders and untidy corners, which look tempting to start clearing. Check as much as you can first, before accidently unearthing a prickly friend. We have just taken our third call in relation to a hedgehog being discovered.
This also applies to Councils assigned to clearing verges with an array of damaging tools. Always be mindful and careful of disturbing wild animals in their habitats, especially hedgehogs.
Although there are no set rules as to when individuals will wake up, this is usually determined by outside temperatures. We are due to experience a chilly spell in March, so it may well be after that they will start to emerge. Get ready to start support feeding, as some of the hedgehogs who went to sleep might wake up a bit weak and wobbly and will need help to get their weight back up, also because their natural food source may not be readily available. We have had reports from hedgehog saviours of their hedgehogs who were visiting for food even when the night time temperatures were -7, so not all hedgehogs hibernate, it is all down to individuals.
If you accidently uncover a hedgehog in its winter nest, please call 07850778752 for help and advice

I think we are all guilty of this sometimes. X
This week we are thinking about questions!

Wow, can't believe it's nearly the end of January already. Where have the last 4 weeks gone.
The Ladybirds have been very busy settling back into their routine after having a long break away for Christmas. We have explored the snow & cold weather, been on winter walks to explore new growth on the shrubs and trees, explored lots of different sensory play, looked at good luck colours for Chinese new year and went bird watching to see how many birds we could find. π
Very interesting
