OLSP 2-0 Starcross
OLSP Girls team took part in their first ever competitive match on home soil against Starcross in the cup.

This was the first game which the girls played together and took the occasion in their stride. Ava, Taylor and Indya were relentless in attack, combining some great play together to make chances for the team. The defense of Eva, Darcey and Stephanie formed a solid defensive unit which gave Starcross very limited opportunities to test Praise in goal.

After the constant chances from Indya and Ava in attack, OLSP finally found the breakthrough from Indya scoring from a tight angle after chasing on a loose ball.

The substitutes, Izzy, Marylou and Molly all came on midway through the first-half and all were fantastic, ensuring that OLSP could keep their rhythm and that OLSP could continue on the constant press on the Starcross goal. Stephanie continued to boss the defence, getting stuck in in tackles and ensured OLSP could keep their clean sheet at the end of the first half.

At the start of the second half, Ava Proctor had some great chances for OLSP to double their lead, narrowly missing the goal when put through by Molly. Massive shoutout to Ava for her continuous running at the top of the field, chasing every long ball and causing lots of problems for the Starcross defence.

Marylou and Izzy battled really well in the middle of the pitch, winning every ball they could and protecting the ball keeping it in OLSP’s possession. Their composure and work rate ensured that OLSP had a good hold on the game.

Darcey Fogden came on midway through the second half and played upfront. This isn’t her usual position on the pitch. However, she did a great job as the striker. On the edge of the box, she managed to grab the ball at her feet and doing a great turn, slotting the ball into the goal, doubling OLSPs lead.

As the game came to a close, Taylor continued to cause problems for the Starcross defense putting in some great crosses and throws for OLSP to capitalise on. Molly and Eva were fantastic at passing the ball to their team-mates to make OLSP’s attack so encouraging.

Despite Praise not having much to do in goal, she was still great at distributing the ball to her team mates at goal kicks, helping to build on attacks from the back.

Thank you to all the parents and supporters who were able to come cheer the girls on in their first ever game together.

OLSP played their first home league match against a well drilled Ipplepen side.

Ipplepen kicked off and went straight on the attack, peppering Oscar Summers in the OLSP goal.

Oscar, playing his first game for the school made several great saves, couldn’t keep out a long range shot that found the bottom corner with 10 minutes on the clock.

Jayden and Ethan continued to keep the opposition at bay with some strong defending and with Jayden making numerous blocks and clearances.

In midfield, Joseph Etienne and Ozzy battled time after time against a team who were, individually much bigger and stronger, with Joseph picking up the man of the match voted by Ipplepen.

Jake Kendell could and perhaps should have scored with his first touch and was unlucky in the second half with a similar chance. Credit to him for continuously getting himself into the good shooting positions. Jake was also unlucky not to get an assist from a corner that was headed clear off the line.

Albie Dyson defied his size throughout the match, dribbling past players much bigger than him with a couple of nice nutmegs thrown in. Beloved was so unlucky not to have scored or assisted and was our biggest goal threat all afternoon. On another day he could have scored a hattrick.

Ryan who, like Oscar was making his debut was the standout player and who took the man of the match trophy thanks to his all-round performance at both ends of the pitch.

Despite the best efforts, though, Ipplepen ran out worthy winners by a 2-0 scoreline after adding a second with less than 10 minutes left of the match.

Finally, a special mention to Oscar Farleigh who, despite not being selected for this match nevertheless turned up to support his teammates and specifically cheered for Oscar Summers who had replaced him in goal.

🌟 Calling all parents, carers, friends and local professionals! 🌟

Our Year 6 pupils are exploring careers and aspirations, and we’re looking for volunteers who would be happy to speak to the children about their job. This can be in person or online, only needs to be 10–15 minutes, and can take place anytime between now and July, so there’s plenty of flexibility.

We’d love to hear from people working in creative industries, technology, skilled trades, healthcare, public services, science and nature, sports, engineering, business, hospitality, or any other interesting field. If you have a job you’re passionate about, our pupils would love to hear from you.

What a fantastic day we all had celebrating World book day last week! The children engaged in some fabulous activities and made such an amazing effort with their costumes!!
