Introducing Steve Howard, our new teacher of Physics.

My name is Steve Howard and I am a Physics and Maths teacher with more than 20 years' experience working in education. I have worked in comprehensive secondary schools, a new studio school and a specialist post-16 college, and have held a number of school leadership positions across the South West of England.

Throughout my career I have focused on driving strong academic progress and outcomes for all students, ensuring every young person is supported and stretched to achieve their full potential.

I have a particular strength and passion for Teaching and Learning, ensuring the school and my classroom is inclusive for all students, and I have worked for many years developing learning environments which work for neurodiverse students.

Before becoming a teacher I was an engineer working in high volume automotive manufacturing, but this was nowhere near as much fun as working as a teacher. Prior to that I worked in medical engineering, for which I was awarded a PhD for my part in developing a training aid for shoulder dystocia, a medical emergency occurring during labour.

I am married and have two school age children who bring me much joy and excitement. I enjoy a busy family life sharing in our love of the natural world. I particularly love cycling in all its forms, walking, wild camping, swimming in our plethora of beautiful swimming spots, sea kayaking and playing music. I am a singer, songwriter and guitarist who loves to perform on the local 'circuit'.

I'm really looking forward to this exciting new chapter in my life, which I will embrace with maximum enthusiasm

Congratulations to Adam who is today celebrating his excellent set of GCSE results including a 9 in Computing which is well deserved and reflective of his passion for coding and AI.

Adam shared this with us about his summer:

“This summer, I was accepted on to the International Programme at Downing College. University of Cambridge.

One of the highlights was the academic sessions in Maths and Biology. In Biology, we even had the chance to test our own blood to identify our blood groups, which made the experience much more practical and memorable. In Engineering, we learnt how to code robots and put our programming skills into practice, which was particularly exciting as we could immediately see the results of what we had created. We were also encouraged to discuss and challenge ideas rather than simply accept them, which I really enjoyed. In some sessions, we had to debate topics with professors, defend our opinions and consider arguments from different perspectives. This really helped me become more confident in expressing my ideas and thinking critically.

Towards the end of the programme, we had a final assignment where we had to explore a topic, my topic was

“Is synergy between humans and AI the path for humanity, rather than the replacement?”

I had to argue both sides of the issue and present our conclusions as a vlog to the entire cohort. I really enjoyed this because it combined research, discussion and creativity, while also challenging us to look at an issue from more than one point of view.

Experiencing the academic and social side of university life first-hand showed me how much there is to explore and achieve. Although I wish the programme had lasted longer, I came away with new experiences, new friendships and a much stronger motivation to work towards university. This builds on my time at Trinity which has given me so many opportunities to experience and explore the bigger topics in life.”

Congratulations Adam on taking all these positive steps to achieving your future goals.

We’re extremely proud of our GCSE students and are pleased to see success across our cohort no matter how long they have been with us demonstrating how inclusive we are as a school. With 14% of 7-9 grades and 68% with 9-4 we are proud of the individual student progress we have seen.

We’re so pleased to have so many students who have achieved the results to return to our Sixth Form in September and we can’t wait to welcome you. Our Year 12 cohort is growing by 300% and our school overall by 25% so we are thrilled so many of our Year 11 are continuing with us.
Whether you’re staying on with us or moving on to somewhere new, well done and we wish you all the very best.

A huge congratulations to Elliot.

After participating in the ISFA National U15 Trials at Ardingly College, the final squad of 18
players to represent ISFS National team for the next season was chosen.

At the beginning of this season over 35 players made final selection from hundreds of top level players across the nation. And at the end of the season this was reduced to just 18 players.
