Who is AVtutoring?
Well that would be me, Alex, a teacher since 1999, with experience in both state and the independent sector. I am a trained level 7 dyslexia tutor with a passion for helping children achieve and believe in their potential.
I believe that tutoring for the individual provides a child with lessons catered for their needs and style of learning. I take time to get to know your child and ensure that each lesson is directly planned for their requirements.
If you are looking for a tutor to help then please do get in touch to see how I can help your child with their learning journey.

If you are looking for a tutor get in touch to see how I can help your child with their writing.
Writing can pose a challenge for many children. Finding inspiration as to where to start and what to write can cause upset for many.
Yesterday I found a lovely clip of an iguana who was found out at sea, 4 miles from any land. I used this in a lesson to act as a stimulus for writing. Before long the iguana had been held captive on a Viking Ship and made to walk the plank! A great way to consolidate the adjectives, similes and speech we had been focussing on for the last few weeks and a smiling, happy and enthusiastic child as they wrote.

Happy Book Day!
I’ve loved hearing about all the book characters everyone had planned for today. My girls are too old now to dress up, but we’ve had lots of fun in the past. Loved listening to Michael Morpurgo this morning discussing the importance of reading and sharing books.

Good luck to all my Year 6 pupils finding out their secondary schools this week. I cannot wait to hear about which school you are going to in September.

Happy Halloween to all my pupils enjoying tonight.
It's been a busy half term at AVtutoring. We've had entrance tests for a lot of pupils and are waiting results. I've taken on many new pupils this term as well as continuing with many I've taught for a while and it's been a pleasure to see them grow in confidence.
I've extended my teaching hours due to demand this half term and have a few places left. If you are looking for a primary tutor, who prides herself on ensuring that each individual is catered for then please do get in touch to see how I can help.

Had a lovely morning tutoring today, grammar, fractions, descriptions of forests and a game of ‘I spy’.
I spy is a fun and interactive way to introduce new concepts and consolidate understanding. Today we used a picture to play adverb I spy. So much learning took place in a relaxed and fun way. Using a picture, say a sentence about one part of it using an adverb, I’ll go first, I spy the sun shining brightly.

I love this - building up a positive relationship with the children we teach is so important and something I am passionate about.
Children learn best when they are happy, feel respected and listened to. If a child feels secure with their teacher then learning will happen.
Tutoring 1:1 allows me to build up positive working relationships with each student I have. It’s lovely to see them grow and flourish and turn round and say, ‘I can do this!’.

I’ve taken a week off this week to recharge and have some family time (think I picked a good week for it!)
It’s really important to relaxed when working to help improve concentration, achievement and health. This allows us to function more effectively.
Think our puppy takes the relaxation part very seriously!
I’m still on my email with a few spaces left, so if you’re considering tutoring for either KS1 or KS2 in Maths or English do get in contact to find out about how I can support your child.
