King's College Prep School

King's College Prep School A wonderfully ambitious co-educational independent school offering day and boarding school places for pupils aged 2-18, in the heart of Somerset

We are a leading Pre-Prep and Prep school for girls and boys from 2 to 13 years old, with around 300 pupils. Set in a beautiful countryside location surrounded by farmland, the school is only a couple of minutes drive from the centre of Taunton. We respect traditional values and boarding is a strong feature, which contributes to the real family atmosphere that exists in the school. Children enjoy a challenging all-round education in a progressive and stimulating environment. King's Hall is one of the Woodard Schools, a group of 40 member schools whose approach is based on the principles of the Church of England. King's College, Taunton is also a member and the two schools benefit from having their own independent sites, furnished with excellent age appropriate facilities and attitudes to maximise the opportunities for the children in our care. There is a close working relationship between King’s Hall and King’s College and the vast majority of pupils move on there at age 13.

🐦 Pupils in the Gardening and Environmental Hobby have been getting creative while helping local wildlife, making eco-friendly bird feeders from pine cones, leftover porridge, bird seed and string.

The finished feeders have now been placed around our beautiful school grounds, providing a welcome treat for visiting birds while encouraging sustainability and an appreciation for the natural world. A wonderful example of learning beyond the classroom and caring for the environment. 🌿

Our Year 8 pupils have kicked off the term by embarking on an exciting Jim Dine-inspired project, creating large-scale collaborative artworks using charcoal and mixed media.

Exploring tools, mark-making and tone, pupils were challenged to think beyond their own section of the artwork, carefully connecting their work with that of their classmates to create impressive joined-up pieces. The project encouraged creativity, teamwork and a keen eye for detail, as individual contributions came together to form striking collaborative outcomes.

There may have been a lot of mess along the way, but there was even more enthusiasm, creativity and fun in the Art Studio. 🎨

🍕 Delicious creations from our Saturday Cooking session.

Pupils put their culinary skills to the test, making mouth-watering pizza swirls, learning how to prepare, shape and bake their own tasty treats from scratch. The results looked fantastic and, even better, tasted delicious.

A wonderful way to build confidence in the kitchen while having plenty of fun along the way.

A fantastic day of football for our boys' teams. ⚽

Both teams battled hard to finish second in their respective pools, securing places in the Cup semi-finals. The knockout stages provided plenty of drama, with one semi-final going to extra time and the other ending in a narrow defeat. This set up an all-King's encounter in the third vs fourth play-off, guaranteeing a strong finish to the day.

Beyond the results, the tournament provided a brilliant experience for all involved, with pupils demonstrating excellent teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship throughout.

Well done to every player. 👏

We marked European Languages Day with a week of exciting activities designed to celebrate the rich diversity of cultures and languages across Europe.

We began the week with a special assembly, exploring the many different cultures represented within our own school community and recognising the value of learning about one another's backgrounds and experiences.

Throughout the week, pupils embraced a variety of language-themed activities in their lessons, while lunchtime became a culinary adventure as they sampled a different European cuisine each day.

From discovering new words and traditions to trying new flavours, it was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to broaden their horizons and develop a greater appreciation of the world around them. 🌎

Celebrating our girls' football champions. 🏆

The team overcame a slow start and never looked back, producing a series of brilliant performances to win the Milton Abbey Football Tournament yesterday. ⚽

Facing strong opposition throughout the day, they demonstrated resilience, skill, teamwork and determination in abundance. Most impressive of all was the way every player contributed to the team's success, supporting one another and rising to the challenge together.

A fantastic day, a superb team effort and a well-deserved tournament victory. Congratulations to the pupils who took part. 👏

Another fantastic afternoon of cross-country running at King's, as we welcomed local primary schools for an exciting afternoon of racing, fun and community spirit. 🙌

This year's event saw the introduction of a new Colour Run, offering pupils who preferred a less competitive challenge the opportunity to get involved and enjoy the occasion. The addition proved hugely popular and brought an extra burst of energy and excitement.

A huge thank you to SASP for helping make the event possible, and to our wonderful Sixth Form pupils who supported throughout as hares, route marshals, event helpers and enthusiastic paint throwers. They were outstanding ambassadors for King's, encouraging participants from start to finish.

Special thanks also to Mr Halls and Mr Guedes, whose energy, encouragement and belief in every pupil were evident throughout the afternoon. Their support is a perfect example of what makes King's Prep so special, inspiring children to challenge themselves, give their best and enjoy every moment along the way.

Congratulations to all the pupils that took part, and to our King's runners, who delivered some excellent performances and returned home with an impressive collection of silverware. 🥇

A wonderful celebration of participation, perseverance and school spirit.

⚽ A fantastic day of football for our IAPS team at Moulsford, who represented King's with skill, determination and great team spirit throughout the tournament.

A strong pool-stage victory over the eventual runners-up showed just how fine the margins were, and the team went on to compete brilliantly in the Plate Competition.

We're proud of their efforts and look forward to more football action at the Milton Abbey tournament on Wednesday.

At King's, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to co-curricular life.

Our Outdoor Pursuits programme encourages pupils to embrace adventure, challenge themselves and make the most of the stunning Quantock Hills on our doorstep. Whether scaling new heights, exploring new terrain or simply enjoying time in nature, every experience helps build lasting memories.

This week was no exception, as pupils spent an afternoon in the great outdoors enjoying friendship with plenty of laughter.
