ChannelTitan VI: Through the Night and Towards France! 🌊

What an incredible night it has been for our Channel swimmers as they continue their English Channel relay swim in support of Compass Disability Services and the refurbishment of their much-loved Hydropool.

After embracing the traditional pre-swim painted toenails and sea-themed stickers, the swimmers set off into the darkness. Through the night they battled tides, navigated busy shipping lanes, encountered jellyfish, spotted shooting stars, welcomed a spectacular sunrise and, above all, demonstrated outstanding courage, resilience and teamwork.

While the swimmers took to the water, others cheered from the boats, fuelled up, rested where they could and supported their teammates every step of the way. Both teams have made fantastic progress and have taken on every challenge the Channel has thrown at them with determination and positivity.

This challenge is about much more than reaching France. Every stroke helps raise vital funds for disabled children and adults in our local community through Compass Disability Services.

πŸŽ₯ Keep an eye on our Stories as we share photos and videos from the crossing, including footage from throughout the night, the sunrise swims and all the memorable moments since the teams departed.

πŸ‘ A huge well done to every swimmer, crew member and supporter involved so far. We couldn't be prouder of what they are achieving.

🎬🚴 Lights, camera, action!

Congratulations to Huckleberry, who will be joining Year 6 this September and has recently starred in a major Lidl-Trek cycling campaign seen across Europe. Lidl-Trek competes in the UCI WorldTour, the highest level of men's professional road cycling.

Filmed in Spain last year, Huckleberry had the exciting opportunity to be interviewed and filmed alongside many of his world champion heroes from the Lidl-Trek professional cycling team, including Mads Pedersen, Elisa Balsamo and Jonathan Milan.

Friends holidaying in Barcelona this summer may even have spotted Huckleberry on a giant billboard promoting the campaign!

We are very excited to introduce the newest member of the Taunton School community: Chandler the aspiring Guide Dog! 🐢

Chandler is a five-month-old yellow Labrador-cross-Retriever belonging to Head of Biology Miss Wedgwood and Chemistry teacher Dr Snell. From September he will regularly come to school to spend time with our students before he heads off to Guide Dog school when he is around 12-14 months old where he will learn how to support people with visual impairments.

Guide Dogs UK trains roughly 850 dogs every year which go on to be a lifeline for blind and partially sighted people. We are very proud to be playing a small part in this and we can’t wait to follow Chandler’s progress!

Pupil Thea shone in Into the Stars, Surf's Up, Samurai and Wonderful World at the recent dance showcase with Fox King Academy! πŸ‘―

When a last-minute pupil dropout left gaps in two further routines, she seemingly effortlessly stepped up to learn Sea Shanty and Bonfire Night during show week itself! πŸ‘

Six performances, multiple dance styles and an amazing attitude throughout. We are so proud of everything Thea achieved on stage. ✨

A huge congratulations to our Prep and Senior students on their outstanding LAMDA & Vanguard examination results! 🎭🌟

The prestigious LAMDA qualifications in Acting, Devising and Poetry are a significant achievement, with Grades 4 and 5 equivalent to GCSE level and Grades 6, 7 and 8 comparable to AS and A-Level. This year, 58% of our LAMDA candidates were from the Prep School, making their success even more impressive.

For students with a passion for poetry and the spoken word, the Vanguard examinations provide an excellent opportunity to develop and showcase creativity, confidence and communication skills. We are delighted that 100% of our candidates achieved a Merit or higher, 90% were awarded a Distinction, and 30% achieved Honours (90+/100).

We are incredibly proud of every student for their hard work, dedication and success. These fantastic results are a wonderful reflection of their talent and commitment. πŸ‘πŸŽ‰
