A practical introduction to using music with autistic pupils, designed for teachers, teaching assistants, SEND and inclusion teams, and wider school staff across Dorset and Somerset. No musical experience is needed.

Led by Live Music Now, the session introduces its research-informed Musical Connections approach. You’ll explore autism and music, the Musical Connections Values and Session Arc, and practical ways to build meaningful music-making around pupils’ strengths, interests and individual ways of participating.

Places are limited to 20, so early booking is recommended.

A practical introduction to autism-informed music practice for music and creative arts leads, instrumental and vocal teachers, and music practitioners working in or alongside Dorset and Somerset schools.

Live Music Now’s Musical Connections approach brings together autistic lived experience, academic research and inclusive music practice. The session explores the research, Values and Session Arc, alongside practical examples of building music-making around pupils’ strengths, interests and individual ways of participating.

County Group Auditions – Monday 12th & Tuesday 13th October 2026
Do you play a string, brass, woodwind or percussion instrument?
Then you could play in the Somerset Youth Orchestra (SYO) or Somerset Youth Concert Band (SYCB)

You need to be at least Grade 5 standard to join. Competition for some places can be quite tough. Most players join the groups before they are 16 and some are as young as 12. The sections are led by very experienced players and during courses, we arrange for tutors to lead sectionals.

The auditions will be held on Monday 12th October at Monkton Wood Academy, Taunton & Tuesday 13th October at Strode College, Street. You will be asked to play a prepared piece, either accompanied or unaccompanied is fine, do some sight-reading and play a few appropriate scales to a few members of the band and orchestra staff.

Want to boost your wellbeing, meet new people and have fun? 🎶
Join us for a relaxed afternoon of communal singing! Beginners are warmly welcome — bring a friend and help spread the word, especially to anyone new to singing.
