Hello OA’s,

Lotti Cargen here, Meynell House & Hockey coach 2016.

I am doing a shameless plea.

A bit of background. I am a teacher but also do some work with Gilbert rugby on the side as a brand ambassador. We are currently looking at a few things but the most exciting thing is focusing on celebrating womens rugby. We have realised - how do you promote a sport that’s not in plain sight? We want to address the fact that womens rugby is still not easily accessible and yet is as exciting as the mens’ game and the same rules!

With that in mind we are also looking at brand diversity and what quality sports equipment can mean to various levels of different sports.

We have launched Grays Teamsports. We need to boost the following quickly and that’s where you (hopefully) come in. Could you please take 3 seconds to like the Instagram page and boost our numbers. We want to be at 1000+ in 4 weeks.

https://instagram.com/graysteamsports?utm_medium=copy_link

I appreciate the power of an old boys network and thank you all in anticipation for the support.

LC xx
We enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of this week, with the annual Staff v Pupils v OA golf match. Congratulations to the pupils, who won the cup this year, and to Wilf G who won the individual competition with an amazing round, scoring 38 points. King's College Taunton - OAs and Friends

As part of our weekly activity support and entertainment this term, we're delighted to confirm that King's College Taunton - OAs and Friends and hugely talented chef Ross Stacey of The River Cafe is joining us for this week's live “Cook for your Parents”.
Photo Friday from King's College Taunton - OAs and Friends – A lovely old photo of King’s staff. No idea where or when this was taken. It looks very much like a CCF trip, with a youthful looking Mr Cole!
Recently found this in my fathers belongings. He attended 1940-42, along with his brother.
I was out on my permitted one piece of outside exercise today (a bike ride) when I suddenly thought of Exeats. Having to get an Exeat Chit signed by your Housemaster to go into town on Weds or Sat PM and return it to the Prefects' Study on return. Do students still have to do those or is it all on line these days?
To engage more in reading for pleasure, using kindly donated , and an audible subscription, Third Form pupils pulled up a chair in our library and commenced reading by . Our thanks go to our King's College Taunton - OAs and Friends for the donation.

My father attended Kings College. You very kindly sent me some information, thankyou.
I'm assuming this is the school uniform from probably 1938 ish?!
Please can you confirm?
I adore this picture, he looks so happy!
Great to meet Oliver Fox (Woodard, depressingly recent) collecting his Hawks Trust award (some funding to assist with costs of elite sport) this evening here in Cambridge. He had to dash off for a training session preparing for GB U23 racing and seems to be thoroughly enjoying the sporting and academic mix here in Cambridge. He would have made Graeme Hall proud.

Over the last couple of weeks we've seen several images of covered , but whilst it has been chilly, so far at King's we've not had much of a dusting. So as not to feel left out, here's one we made earlier - from 2019!

A favourite with our King’s Community, our Public Carol Service, taking place this Friday at 5.00pm in the Chapel. You are also very welcome to join us an hour before for mince pies and mulled wine.

See our Chapel bursting at the seams as we come together in prayer and song. The sounds of the choir singing Silent Night as they make their way down the corridors and cloisters to the Chapel never fails to elicit emotion – a truly unique experience.

Dr. Lewis wrote on hearing of Pete McKegney's passing:-

I was profoundly saddened to hear that Pete's amazing denial of cancer has now ended. What courage and stoicism he showed over the past 5 years. I first met him when I joined the King's staff in 1974, instantly striking up a rapport with this charismatic, mischievous Irish bundle of energy and our friendship developed over 36 years together as colleagues. We have lost a fine character, and a much respected and loved King's school master. Pete left so many marks on King's, notably in the areas of teaching Economics/Business Studies and Maths, as Tuckwell Housemaster, assisting in King Alfred, and in delivering several activities, including canoeing. In rugby his exploits as coach and motivator were legendary. One thinks of his mighty War Machine sides, and of his U14A teams. Was Pete ever happier than on the rugby pitch? My deepest sympathies go out to Hilary, Charlie, Will, Megan and all the family.

Our Own ‘Rogue Hero’
Perhaps you have been watching BBC1’s Sunday evening drama, Rogue Hero, telling the amazing story of the beginnings of the SAS? The last episode airs this coming Sunday which also happens to be the 80th anniversary of the death of Terence Chambers OA who was attached to the 1st SAS Regiment and died on active service in the Western Desert campaign on 4 December 1942. He was aged 27.

Chambers, from Bishop’s Hull, Taunton was in Meynell House and was Captain of Rugby and Swimming, becoming School Captain in 1934. After his death, his mother was actively involved with the school War Memorial Committee. She instituted the Chambers Memorial Prize, awarded to a member of Meynell from 1944-1965. His rugby caps were presented to the school after his death.

Chambers’ grave in the Fayid War Cemetery reads:
‘Who Dares Wins’
He died for England,
Now rest content.

We are proud to present a whole school production of The Wedding Singer! Between the 7-10 December, be transported back to the 1980s where our wannabe rock star (aka a professional wedding singer) is left at the altar, finding his true love with a little help from Billy Idol! This is a must for fans of the iconic Adam Sandler film, brought to the King's College theatre as only our drama dream team can do (Director of Performing Arts, Ms Agg-Manning and Technical Theatre Manager, Mr Hoad)! Expect an evening of light-hearted entertainment and pure retro escapism!

This production is open to the general public. To book your seat, please visit: http://bit.ly/3F4Vwmv
