Giving children opportunities to play outdoors, splashing around in puddles, surprisingly has huge benefits on the child’s development.
Jumping in puddles invites children to practice their gross motor skills, co-ordination and balance. A wet slippery world is very different to a dry one, it provides children different challenges to take on at their own pace.
Puddles provide children with a rich sensory experience. From the earthy smells, sensation of cold water splattered on their faces, sound of the water splish- splash - splosh and of course they just love to get dirty. When all these senses are awakened, this is the optimal learning experience. These experiences also build happy childhood memories.
By allowing our children to play in puddles outdoors, it also helps them to build strong immune systems and will become more resilient.
Remember children are 100% washable and towel dry! So get on their wet weather gear, a change of clothes and make the most of these rainy days.

Modern day parenting has hit a revolution. We as parents and caregivers are becoming more aware of gentle/positive parenting styles and seeing the huge benefits they have on the child.
Since the naughty step was introduced, studies on the development of the child has proven, a child does not develop conscious until around the age of 7 years.
Often the child doesn’t understand why they acted out or did something wrong.
We also know that a young child is unable to regulate their emotions. They do not understand these feelings they have built up inside.
Using traditional discipline methods, such as “The Naughty Step” Is it effective?
We believe using time-in or a calm corner is a much more positive way to help children to have some time to cool off. It’s a safe space, that promotes calm and helps them learn about their emotions and how to regulate them.
You can add soft toys, pillows, blankets, sensory and fidget boxes. Books, picture cards, calming music, meditation, yoga & colouring activities.
Let’s try to guide and help our children to understand their emotions & let them know that it’s ok to feel the way they do.
Let us give them the tools to help them regulate and deal with their emotions.
Love 🙏🏻💛
