The children explored pressing leaves into clay to create different patterns and textures, developing their fine motor skills and creativity.
Some of the children went on to create some wonderful clay pots. This encouraged them to think about design and structure which in turn supported them to ‘keep on trying’ until they had created a pot they were proud of.
Such a lovely experience out in our local community with our friends.

Today’s exciting learning adventure enabled the children to explore the natural environment using their senses, creativity, imagination and visual awareness.
We investigated different textures, colours, smells and sounds whilst incorporating emotions relating to the outside world.
Through open-ended exploration, the children asked questions and shared their ideas about the world around them. They showed curiosity by closely observing insects, flowers and collected resources/natural materials to use in their art work.
This experience supported their understanding of the natural world whilst encouraging language, communication, problem-solving and independent thinking.

Today with our friends we visited our neighbours garden in our local community to observe their magnificent sunflowers.
The children looked closely at the plants and talked about why some sunflowers had grown more than others.
The children used measuring tapes to measure the height of the sunflowers, comparing which were taller or shorter. They used mathematical language such as tall, short, longer than, shorter than, and height. The children counted the centimetres and compared the measurements.
The children showed curiosity as they investigated the sunflowers, observed their features, talked about the different parts of the sunflower and asked questions about how they grow.
Together we read our sunflower book and discussed the sunflower’s life cycle from seed to flower. We explored what plants need to grow and stay healthy.
The children were engaged, curious and enjoyed sharing their observations and predictions about how the sunflowers would continue to change and grow.
Next steps: Visit the sunflower fields at Darts Farm.

During our walk today the children learned about road safety.
We talked about the importance of stopping at the kerb, looking and listening for traffic before crossing.
The children recognised safe places to cross and discussed why it is important to follow road safety rules and observe signs on the pavement as we walk.
They listened carefully to instructions and showed increasing awareness of how to keep themselves and others safe when out in the community.
