Hiring a boat & pilot is💰💰💰so it’s important to prepare properly before paying & boarding on the big day: Swim offshore safely, out of the protection of harbours & away from the beach occasionally. Find the sea conditions you can comfortably swim in - tell your pilot & be honest. The sea finds out if you haven’t prepared for differences in tide, chop, swell & temp come the big day;
Practice swimming alongside a boat, you will save km swam, prevent anxiety before & during the first hour of your swim day;
Check the sea legs of your crew, establish signals to move closer to or further away from the boat, test your routine, pointless bringing a puker as crew;
Practice night swimming alongside a boat. Most long swims have an element of night swimming This will alleviate pre-swim anxiety & stress come the big day.
Practice how/where to attach lights with your support crew in the dark, it’s harder than u think. NB Kilt pins are reliable, strong, big & easy to attach lights to your costume;
Practice your feeding routine & method during training swims, make it fast & efficient;
Have a routine for your relay team to rotate thru eg:2hr rest period post swim; Swimmer supporter/watcher; Admin for teas, vaseline; looking after next/last swimmer; Next swimmer, whose focus is mental prep - write the timetable down for all to see
Eliminate foods that don’t sit right by trial & error. On the big day wrong choices add unnecessary time, distance & stress to your swim thus increasing your chance of failure;
In a Relay your fastest & fittest swimmers generally go first, but consider who swims best at night & who remains calm when in the presence of jellyfish…. Think about your swimming order carefully
You can only do this when you’ve prepared properly - see above;
Lastly & importantly when part of a relay ….don’t get ready for your swim too early, or in plain sight of theswimmer already swimming as it can cause angst 👀 🏊♀️ ⏰ Open Water Swimming Open Water Swimming UK
We launched our five year strategy, and then had an evening full of fun and entertainment. 🎤
After the pandemic put a stop to gatherings, this was the first time in a few years we managed to get together as one firm, and we certainly made up for it. We couldn’t be prouder of our firm and the people who make it. 💬
Taunton School is a leading independent school for boys and girls located in Somerset.
Taunton School believes that a school education should be life changing, not merely a daily ritual to be endured. We believe we should be preparing the young for the next 50 years of their lives, not just the next 5. We believe that it is our job to equip the pupils with the values and experiences for a future anywhere in the world.

Taunton School International students studying Geography had the opportunity to take a field trip to the historic city of Bristol this weekend!
🚢 A major port, Bristol was a starting place for early voyages of exploration to the New World.
They looked at the redevelopment of city's famous Harbourside and shopping district.
📈 They carried out pedestrian counts, environmental quality surveys and questionnaires to see how far people had traveled to get there, why they had come and what they felt about the redevelopment.
Congratulations to the U14, U16 and U19 netball squads who all had a great day at the Netball South West Regional Schools Finals over the weekend 🏐

Last week three of our five schools came together for the first round of the English Speaking Union's Performing Shakespeare Competition 💀
With the competition open to Years 7, 8 and 9, the two places for the Area Finals were being hotly contested by performances from Taunton Prep School, Taunton School Internation Middle School and Taunton School Senior. They featured a variety of duologues and monologues from 'Macbeth', Hamlet', 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' and 'As You Like It'.
It was a hard decision, but the winning performances were of an intensely tortured Macbeth and a unique comic partnership of Helena and Hermia.
Well done to all involved!
