Taunton School is a leading independent school for boys and girls located in Somerset.

Taunton School believes that a school education should be life changing, not merely a daily ritual to be endured. We believe we should be preparing the young for the next 50 years of their lives, not just the next 5. We believe that it is our job to equip the pupils with the values and experiences for a future anywhere in the world.

An enormous congratulations to our 162 Year 11 students who received their GCSE results today! πŸ‘

We’re pleased to share that 13% of all results were graded 9 and 45% were graded 9-7. Notably, for the top 100 performers, 20% of results were graded 9 and 64% graded 9-7.

Individual students who have particularly excelled include:
🌟 Joseph, who achieved eight results at grade 9 and two at grade 8
🌟 Tom, who achieved nine results at grade 9, one at grade 8 and one at grade 7, alongside representing England for hockey throughout his GCSE studies
🌟 Kinuko, who achieved five results at grade 9 and two at grade 8, having completed her studies in one year
🌟 Abi, who achieved seven results at grade 9 and three at grade 8.

Overall, sixteen students achieved results that were all grades 9-7, two of whom completed their studies through our One-Year GCSE programme.

Headmaster James Johnson said: β€œWaiting for exam results is always an anxious time for students, parents and teachers alike. The hope is that all candidates are fairly rewarded for their efforts with grades that facilitate the next steps planned. I am delighted that this is the case for so many of our students and congratulate them all on the sustained commitment that sitting multiple exams in many subjects demands.

"Taunton School is proud of the diverse GCSE pathways on offer and our excellent, long-established reputation in both the two-year and one-year GCSE programmes. None of this happens without the vital combination of student engagement, teacher guidance and parental support, all of which have been in evidence again this year."

A huge congratulations to our incredible Sixth Form students on another year of excellent A-Level, BTEC and IB results. 🌟

61% of A-Level results have been graded A*-B, while 34% are either A* or A. 60% of BTEC results are Distinction or Distinction*. Combined with the International Baccalaureate (IB) results from earlier in the summer, 42% of the School’s Year 13 results are A*-A or equivalent with 68% being A*-B.

Among this year's standout performers is Rohan, who achieved an incredible four A*s in Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and Physics and is heading to the University of Bristol to study Aerospace Engineering.

Other exceptional achievers include Mia, who earned three A*s and will study Accounting and Finance at the University of Edinburgh; Ben, who achieved three A*s and an A while representing England in hockey and will go on to study Mechanical Engineering at Durham University; and Tilly, whose outstanding results have secured her place at the University of Oxford to study History.

We're equally proud of our top BTEC and IB achievers. Oscar, Ben and Dora each achieved D*D*D* in BTEC Sport & Exercise Science, Freddie achieved D*D* in BTEC Business alongside an A in A-Level Economics, and Paul was our highest-scoring IB student with an impressive 42 points.

We couldn't be prouder of all our students and can't wait to see what the future holds for them! πŸŽ‰

ChannelTitan VI: Through the Night and Towards France! 🌊

What an incredible night it has been for our Channel swimmers as they continue their English Channel relay swim in support of Compass Disability Services and the refurbishment of their much-loved Hydropool.

After embracing the traditional pre-swim painted toenails and sea-themed stickers, the swimmers set off into the darkness. Through the night they battled tides, navigated busy shipping lanes, encountered jellyfish, spotted shooting stars, welcomed a spectacular sunrise and, above all, demonstrated outstanding courage, resilience and teamwork.

While the swimmers took to the water, others cheered from the boats, fuelled up, rested where they could and supported their teammates every step of the way. Both teams have made fantastic progress and have taken on every challenge the Channel has thrown at them with determination and positivity.

This challenge is about much more than reaching France. Every stroke helps raise vital funds for disabled children and adults in our local community through Compass Disability Services.

πŸŽ₯ Keep an eye on our Stories as we share photos and videos from the crossing, including footage from throughout the night, the sunrise swims and all the memorable moments since the teams departed.

πŸ‘ A huge well done to every swimmer, crew member and supporter involved so far. We couldn't be prouder of what they are achieving.
