Iβm sure youβre all seeing the effects of the heat on patients. Some great tips from the PCRS βοΈ π₯΅ π₯
Temperatures could reach 36Β°C today. β οΈ
When itβs over 25Β°C outside, hot weather can affect lung health, leading to asthma attacks or flare-ups of COPD and other lung conditions. The resources below can help your patients to stay well in hot weather:

π¨ NEW COURSE NOW LIVE! π¨
One of the questions I'm asked most often is:
"I'm new to respiratory care... where do I start?"
To answer that, I've developed a brand new Foundations in Asthma & COPD programme.
This 8-week (24-hour) blended CPD programme is designed for healthcare professionals who are new to respiratory care or new to primary care, providing the knowledge and confidence needed before undertaking asthma and COPD reviews.
Over 8 weeks, we'll build knowledge and confidence step by step through:
π« Live interactive webinars
π» Self-paced e-learning
π©Ί Realistic primary care case discussions
π Interactive quizzes
π Evidence-based learning aligned with current national guidance
You can choose to complete:
βοΈ The full 8-week Foundations in Asthma & COPD programme
βοΈ The Asthma Foundations alone (4 weeks)
βοΈ COPD Foundations alone (4 weeks)
π
The first cohort starts in January 2027.

If you're already experienced in respiratory care, don't worry, the Advanced Clinical Assessment, Diagnosis & Management programmes are still available and may be a better fit

Advanced COPD π https://www.lrrespiratory.com/copd
I'd really appreciate it if you could share this with colleagues who are starting their respiratory journey or looking to build confidence in asthma and COPD care. Thank you for your continued support!

Due to demand, a further training date has been added for the 3rd September 9:30-12:30.
This 3-hour online training session introduces the Somerset Children and Young People (CYP) Asthma Pathway, supporting clinicians to deliver safe, consistent, evidence-based asthma care across primary care, PCNs, Community Investigation Hubs, and secondary care.
The practical session guides participants through the patient journey β from assessment and diagnosis using objective testing, to treatment, annual reviews, action plans, and recognising & managing acute asthma β aligned with NICE/BTS/SIGN 2024 guidance.
Designed for all clinicians involved in CYP asthma care, the training aims to build confidence in using the pathway, understand the roles of different services within it, and continue to support our patients to receive seamless, high-quality care.
