This is something I feel very strongly about.
Every child should have an equal opportunity to receive an accurate asthma diagnosis, regardless of their age and where they live.
Asthma + Lung UK’s new research suggests that children in half of England could be missing out on an accurate asthma diagnosis, potentially increasing their risk of serious asthma attacks and emergency hospital admissions.
This is an issue I highlight regularly in my training, and I find this inequality in access to appropriate testing unacceptable.
We need equitable access to asthma testing across every ICS. I would encourage you to lobby your ICB and ask what they are doing to ensure children in your area have access to appropriate diagnostic testing.
A child’s age or postcode should not determine the quality of their asthma care. 👇

So, we’re calling for equal access to testing across all Integrated Care System's (ICS), to ensure all children with asthma, no matter their postcode, get a fast, accurate diagnosis and access to the treatment they need as quickly as possible.
