Looking for a new hedge that is both attractive, functional and economical? Looking for one that will grow rapidly in all soil types, is hardy and will give your garden that 'fresh green' look? **Update 13th April**
After a busy couple of weeks of customers purchasing our hedging plants, we have now sold out of our 50-60cm plants. However, we still have plenty of the 40-50cm plants at the lower price of £6 each. Same bushy and quality plants ready to go in the ground and grow in the spring sunshine!

Thinking of planting a new hedge in 2026? Want to do your bit to help combat climate change? Fed up with storm winds destroying your fence panels? Want a hedge that is both attractive, economical, harmless to livestock and domestic animals, and one that can grow at 30 - 50cms per year once established.

Please take a look at the last two photographs taken in the garden of one of my customers. It shows the growth of his hedge between September 2023 and June 2024, that we supplied and he planted a couple of years beforehand.

40-50cm (16-20 inches) at £6 each in 2L pots. These are current stock for early planting, although I will have more of the taller plants later in the spring.

Rough guide for planting density is 3 per metre for this size plant, but of course, you can decide what spacing you would prefer.

Collection, or free delivery for a minimum quantity of 20 plants in Somerset, and a modest 'fuel recovery' transport charge of 20p per mile 'round trip' will apply for other areas in the South West and South Wales.

Fresh stock just arrived! Plenty of new plants now available to provide you with that hedge you have been planning during the colder and wetter months!

Plants of various sizes available (measured from the top of the 2L pot) starting at £5 for the smallest at 40cm, up to 60cm for the tallest at £7 each.

These plants are already potted in excellent quality compost with added fertiliser, and once established in the ground in good well drained soil in full sun they will grow quickly to get to the height of hedge you desire. Advice given on planting, pruning, shaping and feeding.

See the previous two pictures of a hedge grown by one of my customers in Dorset who wished to create a softer feel to his back garden, rather than the look of a substantial fence.

Delivery without charge for quantities of 20 plants or more in Somerset, and a modest 'fuel recovery' charge for other areas in the South West and South Wales. Collection available from Bathpool, Taunton most days by arrangement.

A belated Happy New Year to all our followers, and we hope you had a great festive break.

We had one very late order from a new customer in December, which was quite a surprise, but as it was during one of the somewhat unseasonably warm few days it was not an issue to plant them out as they can tolerate planting in a sheltered spot, having been grown in pots and 'hardened off' outdoors. I would not have suggested the sale go ahead if I didn't think they would survive, and I always guarantee to replace plants if I get to see the location and give my approval to how they will be planted and cared for afterwards.

Whilst Griselinia is tolerant of wind and a salty coastal atmosphere, it can still be affected by by a hard frost, when the tips of the leading shoots can blacken slightly. However, fear not, as this will not damage the plant and the leaves are soon replaced with fresh growth. Also, never plant them in waterlogged ground as there is a very good chance you will lose them, as will planting in hard clay soil in mid summer if you don't water them regularly. All common sense really, which is why I am happy to advise on planting, watering, feeding and pruning to height and shape.

So, with the first rays of sunshine warming the greenhouses and some of the cuttings from last September showing very small amounts of growth on the stem shoots, we are looking forward to Spring when growth of our plants gathers apace and we have taller and more bushy plants for you to buy.

We will also receive a quantity delivery of the taller plants (up to 1 metre tall) ready to deliver to customers keen to get a new hedge established quickly.

Here's looking forward to warmer days!

What an eventful week this week. One fantastic customer in Devon has bought all my tall plants for a fabulous property renovation, that a new hedge of Griselinia Littoralis will enhance beautifully! More plants will be arriving in the autumn once this hot weather has long passed. Plenty of plants around 60-80cms still growing in 2L pots.

1st May (Mayday) and we are celebrating this bank holiday weekend with one of our customers in Dorset today.

We are delivering a select collection of 1 metre tall Griseliinia Littoralis plants to add to their existing hedge that has grown extremely well over the last couple of years. These new plants will integrate beautifully. Happy planting this weekend!

Lots more similar plants available 80-90cms tall, from to top of the pot, ready for planting at £10 each.

We are also celebrating VE Day next week, but unfortunately we do not have red, white and blue varieties!

It's that time again, when the sun starts to shine (thank goodness!), and thoughts turn to the garden! If you are thinking about planting a new, or replacing a 'worn out' hedge, there is nothing more likely to cheer you up than creating a Griselinia hedge.

Pot grown plants are ready to be planted and will get you off to a great start with your new hedge taking root as soon as the ground warms up. Griselinia has 'soft' roots and is not ideal as a 'bare root' solution to your new hedge. It does not like being dried out, even for a short while, and you risk losing some of your plants. This will not only look bad but could cost you more in the long run, having to replace dead plants.

All our hedging plants are pot grown and we measure height from the top of the pot when quoting you size.

As a 'rule-of-thumb', plants over 50cms high (see post below) should be planted 2 per metre (plus the last one!) for a good quality hedge that will grow in ideal conditions more than 50cms per year once established. Of course, by planting them in an 'offset, overlapping' pattern you can achieve a much denser hedge as this will effectively be a double row.

All plants in quantity are delivered without charge in Somerset, Devon, Dorset, Avon and even South Wales. Further afield we charge for delivery at a 'round-trip' rate of 20p per mile.

Please get in touch with your requirements and I will be happy to advise you on any aspect of preparing the ground and planting your new Griselinia hedge.

It's September and the time of year when we prepare our plants for the following year. Hundreds of plants are now having the tips of their leading shoots removed to encourage them to 'bush-out' more.

All plants are pot grown, and after 'trimming' they will have an autumn feed of a blend of nitrogen, phosphate and potassium in the form of Fish, Blood and Bone. This is a slow release fertiliser that allows the plants to soak up the nutrients more efficiently, and prepares them for the winter months.

Nitrogen encourages strong growth and healthy, rich green foliage. Phosphate promotes vigorous root growth and Potassium (or potash) helps improve the soil, sustains plant growth and helps the plants resist periods of drought.

As you can see from the first picture, taken in our display area, there are hundreds of plants that will be ready for sale next year, and in the second picture examples of plants we propagated last September growing very healthily. These will be ready for sale (small) in 2025, or much larger in 2026.

Plan your hedge over the winter, prepare the ground in early spring and look out for our advertisements in Marketplace early next year for prices. Enquiries and planting advice requests welcome - just message us.

Update June 2024. Supply and delivery of large numbers of Griselinia plants have gone very well this spring and early summer. Plenty more plants growing happily in this spell of sunshine following the wet spring.

Delighted to have been contacted by an existing customer last week, when we agreed a delivery yesterday. Original 42 plants supplied in March 2022 to screen a newly erected 6ft rear fence, which have subsequently grown extremely well, as seen in the photograph below. The additional plants will now complete this job.

If I say so myself, these look absolutely beautiful, and one happy customer has already recommended us to friends looking for something similar.

Free delivery in the South West and South Wales in quantity.

October update: All stock now potted on, establishing new roots and bushing out in the late summer sunshine. These will now be reserved for spring sales. Hundreds of taller plants will be available again late February and March onwards.
