📚A busy summer of reading📚

Found a love for reading again this year after ‘never having enough time’ 🙈

I’ve mixed it up with books to share with students and my own ‘reading for pleasure’.

What have you been reading recently?

Any good recommendations for my next read?

Back-to-school conversations don’t have to be all about grades, behavior, and doing your best.

Some of the most important things we can give kids as they head into a new school year are realistic expectations about what learning and growing actually look like.

There will be mistakes. Hard assignments. Friendship changes. Awkward moments. Days they feel confident and days they don’t.

Our job isn’t to convince them that every day will be great. It’s to help them understand that they can handle the days that aren’t.

When kids know that struggle is expected, not evidence that something is wrong, they’re much more willing to keep trying, ask for help, and take healthy risks.

Save this one for the first few weeks of school. 💙

Petition: Create an applied pathway within GCSE Maths and English like Functional Skills

⭐️This would be so beneficial to many of the students I have worked with and continue to work with.

🤔💭How many of us often say, “I haven’t used xyz since school” or “Why didn’t they teach us this in school?”

💵📏Functional skills Maths requires competency in useable, transferable maths skills in real life contexts: budgeting, discounts, measuring areas for DIY etc.

📧📝Functional Skills English requires you to focus on tone for advertisements, emails, letters of complaint; again in contexts that they are likely to experience in the working world.

🔀We need more options for our young people to be successful in real life! Something they actually need and would make sense.

Please consider signing this petition 🫶

Create an applied assessment pathway within GCSE English and Maths based on existing Functional Skills assessment methods. Students would still achieve a GCSE qualification, but could demonstrate the same literacy and numeracy skills through an applied, criterion-referenced assessment pathway.

I remember making these for the last eclipse in 1999, having seen them on Blue Peter.

Can’t get eclipse-safe glasses for love nor money, so we will be going ‘old school’ and trying out these tomorrow 😁

I can confirm they were as delicious as they looked! Might have had to share with the kids though 😏😂

Would definitely recommend Buttercup Bakes if you are looking for delicious treats 🧁🍪

We had lots of fun, made lots of mess 🙈 but created something fabulous!
