Dear Parents and Carers,

As part of our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) nutrition guidance, we would like to remind families of our expectations regarding the food and drinks brought into nursery.

To help keep all children safe, encourage healthy eating habits and ensure lunchboxes are stored appropriately, please follow the guidance below.

🍎 Food Safety and Choking Prevention

* Grapes must be cut into quarters lengthways before being packed in lunchboxes to reduce the risk of choking.

* Apples should be provided in thin slices rather than large chunks.

* Popcorn and raisins are not permitted in lunchboxes due to the choking risks they can pose to young children.

* Please ensure all food is age-appropriate and prepared in a way that supports safe eating.

🥤 Drinks

* Please provide water or plain milk as suitable drinks.

* Fizzy drinks, flavoured waters, fruit juices and other sugary drinks should not be included.

🍫 Treats and Healthy Choices

* Sweet treats should be limited to one item per lunchbox. This helps us encourage balanced eating habits while allowing children to enjoy an occasional treat.

* We encourage nutritious, balanced lunch choices, including:

* Sandwiches, wraps or pasta.

* A variety of fruit and vegetables.

* Cheese, yoghurt or other suitable healthy snacks.

* Foods that provide children with energy for learning, development and play.

🧊 Lunchbox Storage and Labelling

* Where possible, please clearly label your child's lunchbox with their name to help staff identify it and ensure it is returned to the correct child.

* We recommend providing an ice pack inside your child's lunchbox to help keep perishable foods cool and safe until lunchtime.

As another wonderful nursery year comes to an end, our hearts are so full.

To our amazing school leavers… what a privilege it has been to watch you learn, grow, laugh, make friendships, and become the incredible little people you are today. It feels like only yesterday you walked through our doors for the very first time, and now you’re ready for your next big adventure.

While we’re so proud to see you spread your wings, saying goodbye is never easy. Each one of you has left your own special mark on Heathfields, and you will always be a part of our nursery family. We wish you all the happiness, confidence, and success as you begin your journey at school. Never stop believing in yourselves—you are capable of amazing things.

To all of our wonderful children and families returning in September, thank you for being such an important part of our Heathfields family. We can’t wait to welcome you back after a well-deserved summer break, ready for more fun, laughter, learning, and making precious memories together.

To every parent and carer, thank you for trusting us with your greatest treasures. It has been an honour to be part of your children’s early years, and we are so grateful for your kindness, support, and the memories we’ve shared.

From all of the Heathfields Team, we wish you a summer filled with love, laughter, sunshine, and unforgettable family moments.
