We celebrated World Oceans Day by exploring our very own ocean-themed sensory play! 💙

The children enjoyed playing with sand and water, discovering shells, beads, and sea animals as they created their own underwater worlds. 🐠🦀🐚

Through sensory play, the children used their imaginations, developed their fine motor skills, and engaged in lots of conversations about marine life and the importance of our oceans. They scooped, poured, searched for hidden treasures, and explored different textures while learning through hands-on play. 🌊✨

Activities like these help children develop an appreciation for the natural world and encourage curiosity about the amazing creatures and habitats found beneath the waves. 🐙🐟

The children became nature scientists, using flowers, leaves, sticks, grass, and other natural treasures to create their very own magical potions! 🌼🍃✨

The children carefully collected their ingredients, mixed, stirred, poured, and experimented as they explored the natural world around them. Potion making is a wonderful open-ended activity that encourages creativity, imagination, communication, and problem-solving while supporting fine motor skills and sensory exploration.

🍪🤎 National Biscuit Day 🤎🍪

We celebrated National Biscuit Day with lots of fun activities and tasty discussions! The children explored different types of biscuits, talked about their favourites, and enjoyed biscuit-themed play throughout the day. 😋

One of the highlights was watching a video showing how digestive biscuits are made. The children were fascinated to see the process from mixing the ingredients all the way to the finished biscuits ready to eat! 🍪👀

Throughout the day we enjoyed:

🎨🦒 Animal Painting Fun 🐘🖌️

The children explored a fun and creative way to paint using toy animals! Using the animals’ feet, the children dipped them into paint and created colourful patterns, tracks, and prints across the paper.

This activity sparked lots of curiosity and conversation as we talked about different animals, their footprints, and the marks they made. The children loved experimenting with colours, movement, and seeing the unique patterns appear.

🐝🌼 World Bee Day at Nelly’s Outdoor Learning 🌼🐝

The children enjoyed a busy and exciting Bee Day filled with lots of hands-on activities and learning opportunities!

We explored the important job that bees do and talked about how they help flowers, plants, and the food we eat to grow. The children learned about pollination, looked at different types of bees, and discovered why bees are so important to our world. 🌍🐝

Throughout the day the children got involved in a range of bee-themed activities including:
🍯 Tasting honey
🎨 Bee crafts and creative activities
🌼 Flower and pollination games
🔍 Bee hunts and nature exploration
🐝 Small world and sensory play

The children were especially excited to taste honey and talk about where it comes from! We had lots of lovely discussions, curious questions, and buzzing excitement all day long.

🍰🧀 Last month in Foodie Club, Sammi helped the children explore where our food comes from and how ingredients are grown and produced 🌱👩‍🍳

The children got hands-on making a delicious rhubarb and custard cake 🍰 and a tasty cheese and herb loaf 🧀🌿

Music time was full of smiles, rhythm and curiosity 🎶✨

The children explored different sounds and instruments, learning how to tap, scrape, shake and create their own music. We practised listening carefully to the different noises each instrument made and experimented with fast, slow, loud and quiet sounds 🎵

There was lots of dancing, laughter and turn-taking as the children expressed themselves through music and movement. Activities like these help build confidence, coordination, listening skills and creativity — all while having lots of fun!

The children had a great time creating their own pizzas and choosing from lots of tasty toppings.

🍕 Physical Development – spreading sauce, sprinkling cheese and handling toppings helped develop fine motor skills.
🍕 Communication & Language – talking about ingredients, flavours and choices encouraged conversations and new vocabulary.
🍕 Personal, Social & Emotional Development – making independent choices and sharing ingredients promoted confidence and cooperation.

🌿 AtNelly’s Outdoor Learning, the children explored the wonderful plant mint! 🌿

We used our senses to discover all the different ways mint can smell and taste. The children enjoyed:
🪥 Smelling minty toothpaste
💧 Tasting refreshing mint water
🍫 Trying mint chocolate
🥣 Dipping with mint dip and mint sauce

The children talked about the different smells, flavours and textures, sharing what they liked best and noticing how mint can be used in lots of everyday foods and products.

Our spring parcels were full of fun and learning! The children used lots of different skills to create their own delicious healthy parcels, including cutting, chopping, mixing, grating, and carefully folding their ingredients together. They showed great concentration, confidence, and teamwork throughout the activity!
