💎 RIP Dolly💎

I was so sad to hear of the passing of the legend that is Dolly Parton. 💖

I’ve certainly used more than a few of her songs over the years in my dance classes, but there is one particular Dolly moment that will stay with me forever…

Back when I was teaching all the mini and big people with my school as Feetbeats Dance Academy, one year I taught the cutest little class of bright buttons — they must have been no more than four years old at the time.🥰

We were lining up to do our gallops across the room, wands in hand, to Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo. 🪄✨

This one little button was standing at the front, toe pointed to the side, skirt held out in one hand, wand held proudly in the air, when she looked at me and said:

“Can I sing you a song?”

Obviously, I said yes! So we all stopped for a minute and settled down to listen.

She closed her eyes and launched into the most heartfelt rendition of Jolene I think I’ve ever heard. 🥹❤️
She sang the whole verse and chorus, and when she finished, we all gave her the biggest clap.

It made me smile so much — and I remember it to this day.

In fact, when Beyoncé released her version of Jolene in 2024, I messaged that little button’s mum and told her how it immediately reminded me of her little girl. (Who would be about 14 now! 😭)

I just love that Dolly’s music could make its way into the hearts of people of all ages. Even a tiny four-year-old with a wand in her hand and a song in her heart. 💕✨

So here’s to you, Dolly! 💎🕊️💖

🌻 Tap Step Tuuuuuuesday 🌻

It’s that time of the week again!

We’ve taken our Maxi Ford and given it a little twist. Same attitude, same groove—but by adding a step instead of the toe, you can alternate legs each time and create a completely different visual effect.

It’s such a versatile step, and when you add that little pick-up change in the middle, it gives it that extra je ne sais quoi ✨

👞 Drop onto the right foot – flat and loud
👞 Shuffle the left foot – light and fluffy
👞 Spring/change onto the left foot – high or low depending how fruity you’re feeling!
👞 Step onto the right foot
👞 Ready to drop out onto the left and do it all again!

A brilliant step that pops up everywhere and is used by some of the greatest tappers around.

Have fun giving it a go! 🌸

✍️ Dancing is poetry with arms and legs✍️

This is such a beautiful quote.

Just like poetry, dance lets the rhythm speak. Short, sharp beats or flowing, fluid lines. Every movement says something.🌸

🌭 Dancing with the Foods 🌭

This week we took a fully loaded diner dip and turned it into a posh dog!

And that’s a wrap on our Banstead series, as the store closes its doors today. 💔

I can’t believe it. Where else will I get my weekly stir fry and carrot & swede crush?!
More importantly, I’m gutted for the Banstead community. This store has been a real lifeline, and the staff always go above and beyond—chatting with customers, reaching for items, and helping pack shopping.
It will be very much missed. 🧡

We also made friends with this local celebrity. I’m working on persuading her to join us for ballet now she’s retiring… watch this space! ✨

Community, scroll back a bit to see the rest of our food series 🤣)

🌸 Here is our weekly schedule for September! 🌸

We have three different levels of tap:
🌸 Back to Tap – where our beginners start, as well as those getting back into the swing of things. It’s also perfect for anyone who simply fancies taking things at a slower pace.
🌸 Inter Tap – where we move on, speed things up a little, and work on more intricate rhythms.
🌸 Inter/Adv Tap – for those with tap experience who enjoy a bit of a challenge.
🌸 Musical Theatre Jazz – a hybrid of my usual Inter/Adv lovelies and my new low-impact dancers until half term, while we work on securing a permanent home.
🌸 Bloom at the Barre – a gentle, slow-paced class that stays at the barre. We build confidence, strength, and balance in a supportive environment.
🌸 Budding Ballet – all classes are mixed ability, with options given for those with more or less experience. My Wednesday class has recently welcomed a few beginners, so now is a great time to start and learn the basics.
🌸 Seated Tap – all the joys of tap, with the option of using a chair if you’re not sure your legs would be happy standing for the full 45 minutes.

If you have any questions about any of our classes, please pop me a message! 💛

🌻 Tap Step Tuuuuuuesday 🌻

Today’s star of the show is Stompy McStompface — known to the rest of England as a stomp.

It may not be the most elegant tap step, but it certainly knows how to make an entrance.

👞 Start on the ball of one foot (knee should be bent)
👞 Push forward and down
👞 Finish with a gloriously heavy heel beat

Think of it as the tap dancing equivalent of saying, “Excuse me, I’m here’”

I have very fond memories of teaching the syllabus exercises with this step. We’d go round the room combining stomps, tap steps and tap springs, all while trying our best to look super elegant.

Happy stomping!

💥 Non-impact… but making an impact! 💥

No jumps, no pounding the floor, but plenty of power, style and energy.

Our Wednesday ‘Pop Up’ Beginners Adult Jazz dancers proving that you don’t need high-impact moves to deliver a high-impact performance.

Strong moves, confident poses, and all the attitude. 🔥

Things we learned from this 20-second clip:
🌸 It’s okay to be out of your comfort zone.
🌸 We are all ‘works of art.’
🌸 You’ve got to laugh!
🌸 All ages and bodies can dance together (age range here 20’s to 70’s)
🌸 I definitely thought the dancers were closer to me than they actually were! 🤣

Come and join us – you can absolutely bring the energy without the jumps. 💃

🤸🏻 Head Over Heels 🤸🏻

My friend and I were debating whether we could still do a cartwheel. We agreed it’s something we should test at least once a year! 🤣

I never did gymnastics as a kid, so I’ve never been much of a “tricks” dance teacher. A one-handed cartwheel and a forward roll are about my limits. (Although I have been known to attempt a backward roll after a glass of wine... 🤣🍷)

On this beautiful evening, with a stunning backdrop and not a soul around (apart from Mr Bloom behind the camera and my pooch 🐾), I decided to document my annual cartwheel for future me.

I’m very happy to report... the girl’s still got it! 🤸🏻‍♀️✨
