Aspiring nail techs…. save this one 🍊

Abstract swirls like these are all over Instagram right now, and clients are asking for them constantly.

Here’s why they’re the perfect design to practise as a beginner:
✅ Forgiving. No two are identical, so small “imperfections” become part of the look.

✅ Builds brush control. Those flowing lines train the hand control you’ll use in EVERY design.

✅ Teaches colour theory. One bold shade against negative space = instant impact.

✅ Quick to execute. Once you’ve got the technique, they’re fast (and profitable).

But here’s the bit beginners miss:
The glossy, clean finish only happens when your foundation is right, proper prep, correct gel application, and a flawless top coat.

Beautiful art on a poorly prepped nail?
It lifts in days.

Why do so many newly qualified nail techs still feel completely lost after training?
Here’s the honest answer. 👇

It’s not because they weren’t talented enough.
It’s not because they didn’t work hard enough.
It’s because of a gap in the way nail education is delivered.
And most people in this industry don’t talk about it.

Most educators fall into one of two camps.
There’s the highly polished, aspirational type. Beautiful work, impressive credentials, but they feel a little untouchable. Like they’ve forgotten what it felt like to not know what they were doing. Technically sound. But the human support just isn’t there.

And then there’s the hobbyist-turned-educator. Lovely people, great intentions, but the depth of knowledge and the rigour just isn’t there yet.

Neither is wrong. But neither is what most students actually need.

What most students need is someone who is still in it. Still doing clients every week. Still running a salon and leading a team. Still building client columns, introducing new treatments and growing a business in real time and bringing every bit of that into the room with you.
