We offer our thoughts and condolences for the family of the young man killed near our school last night. We pray for them in their grief as we pray also for an end to violence and the culture of knife crime amongst the young people in our community. We pray for the victim that he may rest in peace in God’s loving arms. We also pray for the perpetrator(s) and all who are inclined to use knives or other weapons that they may reject violence and prevent the pain and anguish that affects their victim’s families and loved ones.
Lord, in your mercy; hear our prayer.

Some of our kindness rocks on display on the wall outside the Ray Wickes Building. Created as part of anti-bullying week by our children and helping our children to say kind words - please stop and read them and then help spread kindness in the words you speak.

Learning fun for everyone – St Michael's CE Primary School Blog Today was the day we had been waiting for; the first day of our brand new nursery at St Michael’s. We are sure that the children were just as excited as we were, because there was no stopping them once they got through the doors.

It’s Spring, a time for new growth and new beginnings and we were delighted to welcome our first children into our nursery today at the start of their ‘school’ journey. Lovely to see lots of smiling faces - a happy day for all involved.

With sadness, we record the death of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh whose death was announced earlier this morning. We give thanks to God for his life and service to our country, his faithful companionship to HM The Queen and his devotion to the development and welfare of young people through the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme now in its 65th year. May he rest in peace.

Today is Palm Sunday, the start of Holy Week. In our assembly on Tuesday, the children will mark the events of Holy Week from Jesus' acclaimed entry into Jerusalem through to his arrest, trial and crucifixion, his death and his triumph over the grave. Through Jesus we have hope and can share in his resurrection life. May your journey through Holy Week be blessed.

Year 2's topic this term has been the great fire of London. They have made model houses typical of the time and now, crowded together in narrow streets, a spark in the baker's shop has started a fire which will consume them all. Bringing learning to life at St Michael's CE Primary School. They also had a safety lesson about the dangers of fire!

Today, we became a and joined other schools across Britain in planting a new hedgerow thanks to the help of The Tree Council. The new hedgerow will mark the boundary of our spiritual garden and provide food, shelter and a habitat for birds, insects and other small animals. The beds were prepared by Mr Moger helped by Deacon David and Year 5 children planted the trees in the morning. Later in the day Year 1 children came and spread wood chip mulch around the young trees and learnt how important mulching is to improve the soil, reduce w**d growth, and conserve moisture to benefit the trees. The hedge is a mixture of British species: hawthorn (quick thorn), blackthorn (sloe)and hornbeam. The wood chip mulch was obtained locally from Foxhill Firewood in Keston and we look forward to watching the hedgerow grow and develop.
We celebrate Mothering Sunday on this coming Sunday and we give thanks to all who mother us; not just those who are actual mothers. We also remember and show our gratitude to those who, for one reason or another, cannot or choose not to be mothers.
The Church sees Jesus' mother, Mary, as the example of motherhood and as the mother of the Church and we acknowledge her special role in bringing about God's plan for our salvation by bearing God's own Son and bringing him into the world.
Thank you, Lord for all who are like mothers to us, whether they are parents, or male or female, nurses or teachers and we celebrate their special role in our lives.
