Self defence: the Personal Defence ReadinessTM course is your best weapon against violence

The ability to protect yourself is the single most important skill you can learn. A short course – even just one day – could easily make the difference between being safe and being badly injured (or between life and death). Whatever your age, gender or fitness level – and whether or not you are already trai

ned in attack or self defence – the Personal Defence ReadinessTM (PDR) approach is, we believe, the best training currently available anywhere. It will enable you to convert your instinctive reactions into extremely effective protection tactics. The core of PDR is based on training now given to military and law enforcement personnel in the UK, the US and across the globe. Unlike other forms of self defence, PDR recognises that instinct trumps training when a human is startled – whether that human is a professional fighter or a middle-aged mum. Inspired by genetics and behaviours, PDR fully understands and integrates the human body’s reflexive responses and instinctive survival mechanisms. Our approach is 3-dimensional, creating confidence at an emotional, psychological and physical level. This is not a Martial Art: you are already a human weapon system – you just don’t know it yet! Courses combine lecture, discussion, drills and ‘real-life’ attack and defence scenarios. You’ll learn how to:

Detect a possible threat
Defuse a potentially hostile situation
Defend yourself under attack

We’ll teach you how to:
understand violence (social and asocial)
understand your physiology
harness and manage your natural fear response
build social competence and instil confidence
understand verbal and physical violence
manage your safety and access tools to keep you safe
change your mind set and trust your intuition
implement the essentials of street fighting (a far cry from sports fighting)

…and about

victim selection
what the bad guy wants
why and when you should fight back

Courses are held by certified Personal Defence ReadinessTM instructor Wayne Armstrong and his team of experienced, certified trainers.

It with a heavy heart that I type this and it is with great sadness that on behalf of Wayne's family I report that Wayne passed away on Wednesday 5th September.

Wayne had a great love for coaching and martial arts making people safer. His PDR workshops have helped so many.

Wayne had many close relationships over the years and will be greatly missed.

If you would like to say a few words about Wayne please comment and I will pass it on to the family.

“Those who talk, can usually be persuaded to walk.” - Tony Blauer

In the SPEAR System we understand that a true violent encounter isn't consensual. You don't get to "touch gloves" and prepare. The Bad Guy will often try to intimidate you or threaten you before physically assaulting you in an effort to get what they want with little danger to themselves.

If we can use choice speech and good body language to defuse the situation before it goes physical then so much the better, but if not we need to be able to respond from whatever stance we are in at the time, and that will not be a traditional fighting stance.

That's why our SPEAR classes always start by asking "what's the scenario?" then look at being able to respond to the threat from any one of our natural and behaviorally congruous non-violent postures. It's the Trojan Horse principle in action - we want the Bad Guy to underestimate us to lull him in to a false sense of security.

As Musashi said "Make your fighting stance your everyday stance, and make your everyday stance your fighting stance."

Sexual Consent & No means NO!!!

Needing to address the issues of consent with a young adult... then this is a great starting point for the discussion and an ongoing reference point. Most kids will already kinda know this... this just lays it out real easy.

For young men this can be really important so they have a ethical model by which to manage sensations and desires that can be very compelling.

Also relevant for young women, though they are typically the focus of said males, this video can help them to be clear that they don't have to drink tea and that their No is a NO!!! and that any male should respect this and if they don't then that is not a relationship they really want to be in. A lesson best learnt as early as possible as a young adult.

Desire on both sides can drive individuals into manipulative and coursive behaviour - both parties need education and empowerment.

Another Geat Day On Sunday in Swindon helping people unleash their .

A great team of people investing in their safety.

Amazing to see you engaging and learning, taking the first step and coming to a class which in itself can be scary, then discovering that you are in fact a .

- Coming to understand how FEAR works
- How to embrace your 'Be Your Own Body Guard'
- Understanding and funneling
- Becoming competent in dealing with an AMBUSH
- Harnessing your Natural Weapons

The change from when you walked in and to when you walked walked out was staggering... I am still buzzing now.

During combat, thank God for armour... the Bad Guys took a pounding.

You all did amazing well, it was a pleasure to spend the day working with you.

My thanks to Michelle Antill, Crem Cremtastic (Jamie), James Armstrong, Sam Brooks, Christine Armstrong you helped a great group of people become safer and in doing so made their families and their communities safer.

"PDR Swindon's goal is to help make you and your community safer" - That is our goal and today was a good day.

DON'T OUTSOURCE YOUR SAFETY

This popped up on my FB feed today and I felt I needed to discuss the issue that this advert and others like it represent.

It presents it self as a tool that will keep you safe ! This is very disingenuous and dangerous as it is a tool and only a tool. There are similar devices out there and though they can be useful this would only be true in the context of a considered personal safety program.

A danger of a tool presented like this is that it can lull owners into thinking they are in fact safe and have owners outsourcing their safety to the tool, instead of owning their safety and recognising that such a tool may have a place in that ownership.

You are your first emergency service, make sure that you understand your safety, how to STAY SAFE and if need be GET SAFE. Within that understanding you might consider a sonic tool like this useful and I can see a place it could be applied. But do not in any way out source your safety to that tool.

Consider that VIP's (of which you are one to your family) who have armed guards the ultimate protection escorting them are quite often trained in how to GET SAFE themselves should the Bad Guys get past the guards. Ultimately we are all responsible for our own safety - .

A 90 minute introduction to Personal Safety that was delivered on the 3rd March, we have since returned to follow up and will be visiting again to further their Personal Safety Skills. 90 minutes is not a lot of time but delivered important points, we did over run a little. Had great feed back from the group.

Twelve months ago my son was diagnosed with a serious spine condition and I had to back away from coaching and focus on finding a way forward to get him well. With support of friends, family and people we don't even know from around the world my son is now 6 weeks post surgery and his future is looking very much improved.

This allows me to take up the coaching reigns again... so you will be hearing a lot more from me in the near future. I put the FEAR management training that we deliver in our courses to good use as did my son who had to face up to some scary times which he did stoically. Stay Safe.
