At St Joseph’s Catholic College, there were outstanding individual success stories as well as a really impressive overall performance by the year group. For a second successive year, a student achieved grade 9 in every one of his ten GCSEs, plus a ‘distinction star’ in the Extended Maths award - only about 690 students across the whole country achieve this each year.
A further eight students achieved four more grade 9s, and eighteen students got eight or more grades 9 – 7. The recent RE inspection found teaching in the subject to be outstanding – the 2026 results support with twenty-five students achieving grade 9 in the subject!
The Principal of St Joseph’s, Jerry Giles, said: ‘Once again, we are all really proud of our students and the results they have achieved – this applies to every success story, whether from our SEN Unit, the St Aquinas Centre, from our Inclusion Centre, The Ark, or from our mainstream population of 270 students. As well as the congratulations due to each student, we also thank the teachers and parents whose support has underpinned the success evident today. We wish all our students the best for the next stage of their education and whatever the future holds for them. May God bless them all.”
Overall results at St Joseph’s showed that 66% of students achieved grade 4 or above in both English and Maths, and 50% achieved grade 5 or above in both of these subjects. Overall, 64% of students achieved grade 4 or above in five or more GCSE subjects including English and maths.
