At Nyland, 'Building my part in the community' is an important strand of our EQ curriculum.

Westbury children have many interests outside of school and belong to a range of clubs and communities. They enjoy reading, martial art, football and cooking with their parents. We are proud of all of their achievements and it's amazing when parents celebrate these successes with us.

Big Brush Club is a supervised toothbrushing scheme funded by the NHS, being delivered to early settings across the Southwest.

Tooth decay is the most common reason for hospital admission for young children, and the sad truth is that this is largely preventable. In 2022, a shocking 60,000 school days were missed due to tooth extractions and 1 in 5 children aged 3-5 in England experienced tooth decay.

Big Brush Club wants to help tackle this problem. We aim to reduce children’s hospital visits and school absences due to dental issues, ultimately easing the pressure on the NHS and reducing pain and disruption for children. To do this, we’re promoting oral health in educational settings and are equipping teaching staff to carry out daily toothbrushing sessions from within the classroom.

Nyland is part of the 'Big Brush Club' and would appreciate parents completing this short parental survey.

ARC Silver Award Success

We are proud to have been awarded the ARC Silver Award (Attachment Research Community) today, recognising our commitment to embedding trauma-informed and attachment-aware practice across the school. The award was presented by Heather Short, Head of the Virtual school and reflects the ongoing dedication of our staff in developing their understanding of attachment and approaches such as emotion coaching, alongside implementing whole-school initiatives that support positive outcomes for our pupils.

We are extremely proud of this achievement and are already working hard towards the ARC Gold Award. We look forward to continuing this journey and supporting other schools as they develop their practice in this important area.

As Volunteers’ Week comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the incredible impact volunteers have had across The White Horse Federation.

This week gives us the opportunity to recognise those who generously give their time, skills and care to support our schools and communities. Their contributions, big or small add to our commitment to Inspiring Lives every single day.

Executive Headteacher, Paul Holroyd gave a shout out to; "All the Governors and volunteers at Nyland and St. Luke's...we appreciate everything you do!"
