I always wanted the Good Egg base to be inspiring, comfortable and modern (with all the academic resources a student could possibly need, of course). One of the *many* criticisms I would level at the institutions in which I was schooled would be the often foreboding, oppressive nature of the environment; my tutor room in secondary school looked more an office in a 1960s borstal than a venue appropriate for fostering the happiness and academic success of young people!

The Jellycats on the shelf here are, admittedly, absolutely useless when it comes to explaining figurative language or cubic graphs - all they do is sit there and smile. However, I do hope they help make the place conducive to peaceful study and learning, and less like the depressing surroundings to which I was once subjected!

Today is Good Egg Tutoring's 1st birthday! 🎂🎉🥳 I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has supported and championed me over the past year - not least my wonderful partner Josephine Bradley. In just 12 months, I have been lucky enough to host 650 tutorials, and meet and learn with so many fantastic young people along the way. Thank you all for a wonderful year - here's to the next one! 🍾

Best wishes to everyone receiving their GCSE results today!

Tomorrow is GCSE results day: a strange - and often bittersweet - occasion on which many will experience joy at the realisation of hard-earned exam success, while others may be left disappointed, or even heartbroken, by the grades they receive. To the former I must say preemptively: congratulations on your fantastic achievements. School can be tough, exams are often incredibly stressful, and to do what you have done (particularly in light of a recent global pandemic) is nothing short of remarkable.

For those who fall short of their goals, however, ubiquitous media images of jubilant students wielding their results proudly can sting - but it is important to maintain perspective. At 16, your life is just starting. Few people at such a tender age know who they are or what they would like to do with their lives; I, for one, had no idea, and was well past my 37th birthday when I found my place in education.

To anyone receiving their results, irrespective of how they turn out, I would say that this is just the beginning. Enjoy being young, take your time to discover your identity, what makes you tick, and where you belong in the world. To borrow a phrase from Bill Shakespeare: it's not the be-all and end-all.
