How has it been 6 weeks already! It was wonderful to welcome back over 1100 of our lions today. Our students all had a welcome back assembly with Mrs Leigh - Bennett, who is starting her 10th year as the headteacher of Kingsdown school.

Students then had their BEAT time sessions before they headed off to their lessons. It was great to see such high levels of engagement across all year groups. We are looking forward to another super year filled with pride and ambition, stretch and challenge and respect and responsibility!

School officially starts tomorrow, but today our Cohort 2031 students came in to collect their Chromebooks and paperwork. If your child missed their allocated collection slot, don’t worry - they will be able to sort this out tomorrow during tutor time.

A big thank you to our IT Department for organising everything and helping our new students get set up for the start of term!

We look forward to welcoming everyone back tomorrow! 😊

21st August 2026 - Summer School Day 5 ☀️🏫

What an incredible final day at Summer School! Today our new Year 7 students brought their whole week together for a grand finale, showcasing their amazing creativity, teamwork, and school spirit:

🎭 Mask Making: Students put the finishing touches on their vibrant lion masks, adding all the creative details needed to bring The Lion King to life!

🦁 Grand Finale Assembly: Everyone gathered to celebrate a fantastic week! Groups took the stage to share creative stories and catchy jingles summarising their favorite memories and lessons from Summer School.

It has been a joy watching this amazing group build friendships, grow in confidence, and live out our Kingsdown BEATs all week long. We are so proud of everything they’ve accomplished and can't wait to officially welcome them in September!

20th August 2026 - Summer School Day 4 ☀️🏫

What a creative and collaborative Day 4 at Summer School! Today our new year 7 students put their problem-solving and artistic skills into full gear:

🤖 Lego Robotics: Groups built and programmed Lego robots, then learnt how to control them to complete challenges!

🤝 Teamwork Challenges: Students tackled a series of interactive team tasks, working together to overcome obstacles and strengthen their friendships.

🎭 The Lion King & Mask Making: In preparation for tomorrow’s grand finale assembly, students dove into their Lion King education session and got creative designing and making their very own lion masks!

It has been amazing to see their enthusiasm and imagination shine today as they live out our Kingsdown BEATs. We can’t wait to celebrate everyone's achievements at tomorrow's end of Summer School assembly!

19th August 2026 - Summer School Day 3 ☀️🏫

What an incredible Day 3 at Summer School! Today was all about outdoor adventure and practical skills as our students took on our action-packed Duke of Edinburgh Challenge Day:

⛺ Tent Building & Survival Skills: Teams worked together to master the art of putting up tents, building great communication and problem-solving skills along the way.

🧩 Orienteering: Students put their orienteering to the test, hunting for clues and navigating their new school as they took on team challenges at every checkpoint.

🚩 Capture the Flag: High energy, strategy, and pure determination on the field for some epic afternoon games!

It has been brilliant to see their independence shine today as they continue to make new friends, build confidence, and live out our Kingsdown BEATs. Bring on Day 4!

18th August 2026 - Summer School Day 2 ☀️🏫

Day 2 of Summer School was non-stop energy, teamwork, and brilliant creativity! Today, our students took on some epic challenges:

⚡ High-Energy Action: Fast-paced Benchball and thrilling games of Capture the Flag out on the fields. The teamwork and encouragement across every group was fantastic to see!

💡 The Big Pitch: In our special Dragon’s Den challenge, groups put their heads together to invent and pitch incredible ideas designed to help communities navigate different terrains and climates across Africa. We were blown away by their innovation, problem-solving, and confident presentation skills!

Another fantastic day building friendships, growing in confidence, and living out our Kingsdown BEATs.
