Green Trees Forest Schools

Green Trees Forest Schools We provide an interactive learning experience by exploring woodlands and rural areas, encouraging well being through play and developing imagination.

We are a forest school for "TODDLERS", but we are more than happy for babies to come along. We explore, learn and play. Through outdoors play we grow and develop our personality, whilst having loads of fun.

🍂 AUTUMN ART AT TODDLER FOREST SCHOOL! 🍁🎨

This Friday is going to be a wonderfully messy, creative morning in the woods! 🌳

Our theme is AUTUMN ART — using leaves, sticks, seeds, pinecones and whatever else nature provides to create, explore and have fun. 🍃🍂🌰

There’s no pressure to make something “perfect”. It’s about children getting their hands involved, experimenting, discovering and seeing what they can create from the natural world around them.

We’ll have:

🍁 Autumn nature art and crafts
🎨 Plenty of messy, hands-on creating
🌳 Exploring and discovering the woodland
🪵 Natural materials to investigate and play with
☕ Tea and coffee for the grown-ups
🍎 Snacks for the little explorers
😊 And plenty of time simply to play, explore and enjoy being outdoors!

📅 This Friday
⏰ 10:00–11:30am

Come along, get creative and make some autumn memories with us. 🍂❤️

🌿 Two Years Inside a Jar! 🌿

Two years ago, my son and I built our own little self-sustaining biodome.

We collected mud from the garden, moss and other tiny pieces of woodland, placed them inside a jar and sealed it airtight.

And then we waited… 🌱

Two years later, it’s still going.

Inside that little jar, water evaporates, condenses and falls again. Plants grow, die back and decompose, nutrients are recycled, and the whole miniature ecosystem changes with the seasons.

For children, something this simple can open up so many questions:

🍃 Where does the water go?
🌱 What do plants need to survive?
💧 Why is there condensation on the glass?
🪱 What happens when plants die?
🌍 How does an ecosystem recycle its resources?

That’s what I love about Forest School. Nature doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes an old jar, a handful of mud and some moss can become a science lesson that lasts years.

And best of all, it’s something children can create, observe and explore from their own home.

This is fascinating research 💚

Research that shows forest school isn't just fun — it's critical to health.

And studies show it transforms children's immune systems in just 28 days.

A groundbreaking experiment in Finland replaced gravel and asphalt in nursery playgrounds with patches of forest floor, complete with mosses, leaf litter, and wild undergrowth.

The results were staggering: In just 28 days, children who played in these rewilded yards developed more diverse skin and gut microbiomes along with higher levels of regulatory T-cells. This suggests that the biodiversity hypothesis—the idea that our sterile urban environments are linked to rising allergy and autoimmune rates—is a tangible reality we can change by simply reintroducing nature's microbial network to our daily lives.

It was fantastic to meet so many amazing children, parents and carers today. Thank you to everyone who came along, explored, painted, mixed, played and joined us on our little nature walk.

🦋🌿 Meet the Box Tree Moth! 🌿🦋

This beautiful little moth is known as the box tree moth. 🦋

Beautiful to look at, but it isn’t native to the UK. It originates from East Asia and was first recorded in Europe around 2006.

🦋 It’s a brilliant species to show children and a great opportunity to talk about native and non-native wildlife, how different species become established in new places, and why we need to be careful about introducing non-native species into our ecosystems.

🌳 At Green Trees Forest Schools, this is what we love to do — explore and discover together.

We encourage children to get outdoors, look closely, ask questions, investigate what they find and develop a genuine connection with the natural world around them. 🌿🐛🦋🐞

Sometimes the smallest discovery can lead to the biggest conversation!
