Come along and join Me (Graeme Goodwin of Rhythmworks) to experience the Unique Intensive Djembe technique with Drum Meditation Technique. I have played Djembe for 28 years and I studied in The Gambia, West Africa with Master Tomas Camara of the Sousou tribe from Guinea Conakry. A Djembe Drum is a rope-tuned Goat-skin-covered goblet wood drum played with the bare hands, originally from West Africa. The Djembe is one of the many percussion instruments within West African Percussion which is ‘the roots of popular music’ - all that we've been listening to for the past few decades including jazz, blues, pop & rock - all trace back to West African percussion. Allow me to guide you on the Djembe and show you how to make the drum speak! These are fun, friendly and informal classes which teach you the roots of African Drumming and Percussion from West Africa. My Classes, although relaxed, are focused and instill discipline in Technique, Body Posture and attitude..! ;-)

You will Learn & Practice:

• Learn and PLAY the accompaniment rhythms which form Djembe music
• The primary TONES played on the Djembe to make the Djembe ‘speak’
• ‘Time’ precision TEMPO and RHYTHM
• Learn to ‘free your mind’ and find greater calmness and relaxed nature
• Many Multi-part Rhythms in 4/4 Timing
• Many Multi-part Rhythms in 6/8 Timing the Roots Manding system
• The Importance of & ‘How to’ of Body-Posture & Mind-set in African Drumming
