You send off application after application and hear nothing back. No feedback, no interview, just silence.

It's rarely because you're not good enough. It's usually one of these three things.

1. You applied too late. Most NHS listings close the moment they have enough applicants. That job you were going to do "at the weekend" was gone by Tuesday. The people getting interviews aren't better than you - they applied on day one.

2. You're aiming at the wrong jobs first. Everyone goes straight for permanent contracts, where the competition is fiercest and the requirements highest. Bank shifts ask for less, you choose your own hours, and every shift counts as real NHS experience on your next application. It's the side door, and hardly anyone uses it.

3. You've got the care, but not the skills. This is the big one. Care experience shows you're compassionate - it doesn't show you can do the clinical work. Venepuncture, cannulation, ECG. These are the words that appear on the better paid job adverts, and they're the reason someone with less experience than you keeps getting picked.

Here's the part nobody says out loud: you can fix that third one in a single day.

Most people who walk into our training room have never taken blood before. By the end of the day, they have β€” properly, with a trainer beside them the whole time, and a certificate to show for it. One day each for phlebotomy, cannulation and ECG.

You've already done the hard part. You've spent years caring for people. This is just the piece of paper that finally lets someone see it.

⚠️ Limited seats on each class.

🩸 How many practice draws before it clicks?

Most people guess twenty. Some guess a hundred.

The honest answer from our trainers: usually three or four on the silicone arm, then two supervised live draws.

That is the whole distance between β€œI could never do that” and doing it.

Two more groups finished their phlebotomy training in London this week 🩸

Most of them had never taken blood before that morning. By the end of the day, every one of them had β€” and left with a certificate.

One day, face to face, with a trainer beside you the whole time. No experience needed.

⏱️ How long from β€œI am thinking about it” to your first paid shift?

Week 1 β€” online theory, done around your job
Week 2 β€” one practical day, certificate the same afternoon
Weeks 2 to 4 β€” applications out, DBS and references in motion
Weeks 4 to 8 β€” first bank or permanent shift

It is not instant. But it is weeks, not years β€” and almost all of the waiting is paperwork, not study.

The only part that costs you a full day of your life is the training itself.

Watch one of our learners take a live blood draw on our 1 day phlebotomy training.

She'd never done it before that morning. Most people in our training room haven't.

Want the next one to be you?

One day, face to face. You practise properly first, go at your own pace, and take real blood only when you're ready - with an experienced trainer guiding you through every step. CPD accredited and NHS accepted, with no experience or qualifications needed to start.

Available in 11 UK cities from Β£160, with four interest-free instalments and a 14-day money-back guarantee. Every learner also gets our free job-support webinar covering where to apply and how to write an application that gets read.

⚠️ Seats on each class are limited.

🩸 Let us talk about the thing everyone is scared of.

You will miss a vein. Everyone does β€” including the phlebotomist who has been doing it for twenty years.

What separates trained from untrained is what happens next:

β€’ You stop. You do not go digging around
β€’ You withdraw, apply pressure and apologise properly
β€’ You reassess β€” different arm, different site, different gauge
β€’ You know when to hand over rather than try a third time

Missing is not failure. Panicking is. And you cannot practise that recovery from a video.

❌ β€œI am 47. It is too late for me to retrain.”

Our oldest learner this year was 61. She is working in a private clinic now.

Healthcare is not looking for young. It is looking for calm, reliable and good with frightened people β€” which usually arrives with age, not before it.

The most nervous patients almost always ask for the older practitioner.

If age is your reason, it is the weakest one on the list. Tell us your real one πŸ‘‡

πŸ’· Let us do the honest maths.

One day of training. One certificate. Then look at what it opens:

β€’ NHS roles you were not eligible to apply for before
β€’ Band 3 adverts that list phlebotomy as a requirement
β€’ Bank shifts you can pick up around your current job
β€’ Private and mobile work paid per visit

Most learners cover the cost of the course within their first few weeks of shifts.

The expensive option is another year in a job you have already outgrown.

If you want to move into NHS healthcare work, these are the three courses worth doing

Phlebotomy Competency Certificate
Hands-on training with live, assessed blood draws under the supervision of a senior healthcare professional. You leave with a UK-recognised certificate of competency - and a job recommendation letter from the trainer who assessed you. Very few applicants turn up with one.

Level 3 Award in Health & Social Care
Ofqual regulated and studied entirely online, at your own pace, with written assignments instead of exams. No experience needed and you can start straight away.

Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care
Ofqual regulated, and the RQF equivalent of the old NVQ Level 3 that Band 3 job adverts name. Includes live 1:1 assessor support. You'll need to be working or volunteering in a UK care setting to complete the workplace element.

Every learner also gets our free job-support webinar, covering where to apply, what the NHS bands mean, and how to write an application that gets read.

πŸ‘‡ Comment "START" + your city and we'll send you the enrolment links and the courses information.

πŸ’‰ Flu season is the easiest time of year to get hired.

Every autumn, pharmacies, GP surgeries and clinics scramble for trained vaccinators β€” and they start hiring now, not in November.

Our Vaccination & Immunisation training covers safe IM technique, consent, contraindications, cold chain, anaphylaxis recognition and Basic Life Support.

Train in September. Work the season. Keep the skill for good.
