So I was sat in a beer garden with my dog Oscar and there was a guy who clearly had his beer goggles on…
Because he kept loudly telling his mates that Oscar was a “wrong Dalmatian”.
Now, German Shorthaired Pointers get mistaken for all sorts of breeds. It’s a bit of a running joke amongst GSP owners and normally it doesn’t bother me.
But this guy wasn’t just getting Oscar’s breed wrong. He was calling him wrong and really enjoying making Oscar the joke.
Younger, more people-pleasing me would probably have sat there getting irritated, but remained quiet to avoid an argument.
But eventually I decided there really was no cure for stupid and piped up.
“Actually, he’s not a wrong anything. He’s a completely different breed.”
You could have heard a pin drop.
All his mates turned to Mr Gobby to see what he’d say.
Mr Gobby went bright red and mumbled something incoherent into his pint.
I had a quiet smirk to myself whilst Oscar gave precisely zero 💩s about the entire exchange.
Funny, isn’t it, how one little word can completely change the tone of something?
Being told Oscar looked like a Dalmatian didn’t bother me at all.
Being repeatedly told he was wrong did.
So, if you want to make a dog the butt of your jokes, be prepared to be educated by a menopausal midlife doggy mum. 😂
