Year 10 Design Technology π¨
We have spent the year focusing on materials: Timbers, Polymers and Metal, we have learnt about marking, cutting, shaping, forming and looking at how to achieve high quality work through accuracy and prototyping.
They have made Acrylic Mobile phone stands: Formers out of MDF, moulds from HIPS and soap through the use of the vacuum former. Made a Pine Christmas tree looking at how jigs are used in industry, Bamboo pots which uses templates and mitred joints. Pine boxes with an influence of Art Deco which has been laser engraved onto the lids, trialled Lap, Dowel, Finger and some pupils mastered the Dove Tail joint, also using a particular difficult hand made hinge. Our final practical skills focused on metal: Learning how to Pewter cash with an Acrylic resin and Mild Steel bottle opener. They have worked consistently hard all year and now looking forward to starting the design and making of their NEA after we return from the summer break,

Year 9 Design Technology π¨
The second module in Design Technology this year, Yr 9βs have focused on metals. They have learnt about ferrous and non-ferrous, in particular Aluminium. They have trialled concept sketches looking at how to texture metal: They have design tea light candle holders: and reused their waste back in the design to be more eco friendly by riveting them together. We have had a fantastic response from the brief this year and it is a shame that we can not show them all.

Year 8 Design Technologyπ¨
Years 8 have focused on using CAD/CAM to design keyring to learn the technical skills and then an Acrylic mobile phone stand through 2D design. They have designed a passive speaker using Birch Plywood and MDF, thinking about how they could use the 6Rβs in their design, so they have reused their waste. Choice of finishing treatment either varnish or stain. Some fantastic ideas this year π

π **That's a wrap on another fantastic academic year at Melksham Oak Community School!** βοΈ
As we close the doors for the summer, we would like to say a huge **thank you** to all of our students, parents and carers for your continued support throughout the year. Together, we've celebrated so many achievements and made memories that will last a lifetime.
Today, we had the pleasure of thanking our students during celebration assemblies, recognising their hard work, resilience and the many successes they have achieved throughout the year. To finish on a high, members of the Senior Leadership Team visited tutor groups with free ice lollies for both students and staffβa small gesture to celebrate a truly successful year together! π¦

We wish all of our students, families and staff a safe, happy and well-deserved summer break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in September for another exciting year at Melksham Oak.

This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff, students and wider school community in creating an environment where nature is valued and learning comes alive.
At Melksham Oak Community School, we believe that inspiring lives means providing greater opportunity and choiceβboth inside and outside the classroom. Our Outdoor Education Area is helping us do just that, encouraging curiosity, resilience and a lifelong appreciation of the environment.
