✂️ A cut above the rest!

This month, we’re celebrating William from Elvar House and another fantastic example of his growing confidence, independence and personal progress.

After being asked if he'd like a haircut, William initially decided it wasn't the right time. The following day, he changed his mind and let the team know he was ready to go.

From there, William took charge of the whole experience—choosing when to go, deciding to travel by taxi, organising his payment, and asking Joy and Joseph to accompany him. (He even politely ignored Patrick's questionable haircut suggestions! 😄)

It's a great example of what promoting independence looks like. By giving people the time, space and support to make their own decisions. Even when plans change, we help ensure they have choice, control and autonomy over their own lives.

Well done, William!

On 31st July, The Old Elms celebrated a whole year of being open with a fantastic BBQ and party! 🥳

The team celebrated alongside all their tenants and their families, as well as welcoming Registered Manager Emma Booth, Ellie Lambeth (SDP) and Rob Rowlands (Recruitment).

It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the incredible achievements and hard work of the staff and tenants over the past year.

Each staff member received a fun certificate celebrating their individual qualities, including:
✨ ‘AI & Communication Wizard’ – Shannon Bennett
🌟 ‘King of Positivity’ – Chime Okechukwu
💃 ‘Best Dancer’ – Chifumnaya Mogekwu

Staff also received a small gift and beautiful anonymous messages of appreciation from their colleagues. It was truly heartwarming to see everyone recognising and celebrating one another.

Tenants were also recognised for their fantastic achievements, receiving certificates and prizes for completing their Duke of Edinburgh Award, being a Top Mathematician, and for their excellent arts and crafts!

Service Manager Millie Fortune said:

“It was wonderful to celebrate all of the hard work and achievements from the last year with parents, and to share lots of photos showing what the tenants have been up to!"

A huge thank you and well done to all the staff who helped plan the celebration, baked and cooked such wonderful food, and celebrated colleagues and tenants.

A little while ago, the team at Elvar House reached out to Specsavers after recognising that visiting a busy optician can be overwhelming for some of our residents. Crowded, unfamiliar environments, sitting through an eye examination and having equipment used close to their eyes can understandably be a lot to manage.

When we explained this to the opticians, they were incredibly understanding and told us they’re able to offer home visits for people who may find attending a high-street practice difficult.

Now, the Specsavers team visits Elvar House every year to carry out our residents’ eye tests in the comfort and familiarity of their own home.

It’s a wonderful example of how small adjustments can make a big difference — helping our residents access the care they need in a way that feels comfortable, familiar and respectful.

And just look at Salam rocking her new specs! 👓

The team at Suillean House supported residents to take part in the ‘Best Dressed’ competition at the 158th Heckington Show, England’s largest village show!

Residents proudly designed and decorated their own display, showcasing their creativity, imagination and talents. Even more impressively, the display was created using recyclable materials, highlighting Kisimul’s commitment to sustainability while celebrating this much-loved community event.

Although they didn’t take home the prize, the residents had a fantastic time getting involved and were incredibly proud of what they created. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate their talents, work together and be part of such a special local tradition.

Patrick has been part of the Kisimul family for just over two years, bringing with him many years of experience supporting people with learning disabilities and autism.

What began as a short-term role in care soon developed into a career Patrick truly loves and one he hasn’t looked back from. As Deputy Manager at Elvar House, Patrick is passionate about making a positive difference every day and supporting the people we care for to achieve greater independence.

When he’s not at work, you’ll often find Patrick enjoying the great outdoors, whether that’s spotting wildlife, camping or hiking. He also enjoys a round of golf or a game of snooker. More recently, Patrick has taken on a very special new role, becoming a proud uncle and loves spending time with his family.

What Patrick enjoys most about his role is building meaningful relationships with the people we support, their families and his colleagues. He takes pride in being approachable and always making time to listen, support and help.

💬 “I am incredibly proud of the progress each of our tenants has made. Every person we support has their own unique journey and success story, and it is a privilege to see and be part of those achievements.”

Thank you, Patrick, for your dedication, compassion and commitment to helping people achieve greater independence.

Garrie's journey to remarkable! 🚖

We're celebrating a fantastic achievement from Garrie. whose recent taxi journey home was the longest time he has spent in a vehicle for quite some time, and we're delighted to say it was a huge success!

This milestone has opened the door to another family visit in August, creating even more opportunities to stay connected with loved ones.

Garrie's achievement is the result of his determination, resilience and the consistent support of the team at Elvar House. A special shout-out goes to Antoinette for her dedication. Through new support strategies, communication keyrings and plenty of encouragement, Garrie has developed the skills to self-regulate during longer journeys.

Every milestone, big or small, is worth celebrating, and this is a wonderful example of how personalised support can help people achieve their goals and build greater independence.

Congratulations Garrie! We're so proud of everything you've achieved and can't wait to see what milestone you'll reach next 🌟

Cameron's love of baking was on full display this week as he treated everyone at An Caladh to a delicious homemade apple and blackberry crumble!

With support from Keely and Ellie, Cameron picked fresh blackberries from a local riverbank and apples from the garden before baking his tasty dessert from scratch. It was a huge hit with everyone!

Baking is one of Cameron's favourite hobbies, and activities like this build independence, encourage time outdoors, and bring people together to enjoy something he's created himself.

Fantastic work, Cameron, we can't wait to see what you'll bake next! 👏
