💭 What will it become today? 💭
One of the wonderful things about open-ended play is that it doesn’t need expensive toys or elaborate activities. In fact, some of the simplest things can inspire the biggest ideas. 💡
At Teilo’s, we love giving children resources they can explore in their own way, without there being one ‘right’ way to use them.
Want to encourage a little more open-ended play at home? Try offering:
🧺 Baskets, bowls & containers – for filling, emptying, sorting and transporting
📦 Cardboard boxes – a car, house, shop, bed, rocket… who knows where their imagination will take them!
🥄 Wooden spoons, pots & kitchen utensils – perfect for pretend play, mixing, making sounds and experimenting
🌿 Natural treasures – pinecones, leaves, sticks and shells for arranging, counting, creating and exploring
🧱 Blocks & loose parts – for building, balancing, stacking and inventing
🧣 Scarves, fabric & blankets – for dens, dressing up, small-world landscapes or anything else children imagine!
And the important bit? You don’t need to show them what to make. Give them the resources, time and freedom to explore and see where their ideas take them.
Sometimes a cardboard box really is more exciting than the toy that came inside it! 📦 😍
