I often take small videos for observations but don't always share them.I wanted to share this one, it shows a tiny moment of what children experience at Munchkinos, an unedited snapshot of an afternoon at the beach.
The children explored in their own way and at their own pace. Digging, collecting, climbing, getting absolutely covered in sand, helping each other, chatting, investigating and making up their own games as they went along.
Toni and I were there as the enabling adults, keeping everyone safe, joining in when invited, answering questions, helping when needed and providing the time and freedom for their play to develop.
This is the beauty of learning through play.
One child can be completely absorbed in the sand while another is running, another is watching, another is working something out with a friend. Nobody needs to be doing the same thing for learning to be happening.
There’s so much going on in these ordinary little moments, confidence, independence, communication, problem solving, physical development, friendships and curiosity.
No worksheets. No adult-led outcome.
Just children, a beach and the freedom to follow their own interests.
This is Munchkinos. And this is why we spend so much of our time outdoors. 🌊
