Last week we brought together UWTSD Computing students, staff and industry partners at our SA1 Campus in Swansea to celebrate the creativity, innovation and achievements of our students at the Changemakers Innovation Competition 2026 🏆

The competition challenges students to combine human creativity and technology to develop innovative solutions with a Positive Social Impact. 🌍💡

🚀UWTSD Computing Students Visit Google

Our Competition Winning Computing students were recently rewarded with and enjoyed an exclusive visit to Google's King’s Cross headquarters, where they met industry experts and toured one of the world's most innovative workplaces.

🌟The visit provided students with the opportunity to hear from industry leaders including Google Cloud Architect Neil Rutherfoord, UWTSD Graduate and Technology Executive Dafydd Moore, and Google Account Executive Leah Shergold. Discussions focused on AI, emerging technologies, future career opportunities, and the importance of lifelong learning, resilience, communication, authenticity, and collaboration.

One unexpected highlight was spotting a fully autonomous WAYMO taxi on the way into London, bringing the future of AI to life before we even arrived! 🤖🚕

A huge congratulations to all the students who earned their place through outstanding achievements, innovation, and award-winning projects. 👏🎉

How do you teach a 2,400-year-old philosophical idea to today's digital generation?

At UWTSD, Games Design students have created an immersive digital recreation of Plato's Cave, one of philosophy's most famous thought experiments. The project combines philosophy, games design, and immersive technology to help bring complex ideas about reality, perception, and knowledge to life in an engaging and interactive way.

Plato's Allegory of the Cave reminds us that what we perceive may only be a limited view of reality, and that education is a journey from assumption and ignorance towards deeper understanding and truth.
