We were very lucky to be able to welcome back Julia Griffiths Jones last week for a special St Davids Day Lecture and Workshop. Julia brought collections of drawings and sketchbooks from her archive, inspired by Welsh culture and the connections she has made to other cultures through her travels.
Thank you to Daniel Harris for the loan of the spectacular Welsh blankets. A SP&T still life never looked cosier!

Laura Ashley’s Heartland 💕 how beautiful.
Our exhibition is open in the Dynevor Foyer Galleries, week days 9-4 until March 4th.
This has been such a special week, with the culmination of a truly special project collaboration with celebrating 100 Years of an Icon.
What better place to start our recap than with Sarah Davies’s winning moment. She stole the show with her “Regency Romance” Collection, receiving wonderful feedback from the Laura Ashley team and a dreamy Laura Ashley hamper filled with their gorgeous products.
We’re so proud of Sarah’s collection, and all the student work on display in our Dynevor Foyer Galleries . We are open 9-4 week days, please come and see the wonderful work on show until 4th March.

We’ve had an amazing term welcoming the Skills Wales Master classes to our department for the Textiles and Surface Pattern Competition which we are hosting in Feb. We are blown away by the talent across Welsh FE programmes taking part.
We’ve been playing with Paisleys, amongst other workshops, exploring the theme of Future Histories and encouraging competitors to unpick textiles truths!

We had a the best West Wales road trip yesterday to visit at the Welsh Quilt Centre Lampeter and her shop in Llanybydder. We were so lucky to enjoy a talk from Jen herself, and we were honoured by a special greeting from the gorgeous shop cat.
We stopped for some lifestyle inspo and enjoyed a good mooch around the town, already looking and feeling super Christmassy!

What an incredible start to the academic year!

Such a privilege that our current live brief enables our students to work with the Laura Ashley team celebrating the legacy of their founder, her Welsh roots and the brand’s ongoing commitment to nurturing talent. Stuff of dreams for all of us on our programme!
We kicked this off with a 100th Birthday Tea Party celebration followed by a visit to the London Design studios and Laura Ashley archive. Pinch me moments aplenty. We loved seeing our graduate work profiled in the studio and stored in the archive, just wow!
Watch this space for the unfolding of the project and the exhibition scheduled for February.

A fantastic day yesterday with 1st years St Fagans. Rain didn’t stop play nor dampen spirits. Drawing, painting and ghost stories kept us entertained. The usual favourites were big hits; Gwalia, The Tailor’s Shop and St Fagans Castle.
