Important Hot Weather Update – Shorter Sessions Advised
Dear Parents and Carers,
As you will be aware, Swansea is in the middle of an extreme heatwave, and the temperatures we are seeing are some of the highest we have experienced. We wanted to write to you personally and honestly about how this is affecting nursery, and to ask for your support over the coming days.
We want to be open with you: we do not have air conditioning at the setting. Our team is doing everything we can to keep the children cool and comfortable – fans are running in every room, windows are open with safety restrictors in place, we are keeping the children indoors during the hottest part of the day, and there is plenty of cold water, ice, and cool sensory play available throughout the day. Despite all of this, the heat indoors remains very intense.
Sadly, several children have struggled today and have needed to go home, some with raised temperatures and heat rash. Their comfort and safety will always come first.
What we are asking of you
While the heatwave continues, we would advise bringing your child in for a short session only rather than a full day. We are open from 7:30am, and we would ask that, where possible, you collect your child shortly after lunch, at around 1:00 pm tomorrow .This helps us keep the children out of the worst of the afternoon heat.
Please also know that if your child shows any signs of being affected by the heat – such as a raised temperature, heat rash, or becoming unsettled and unwell – we will contact you and ask that they be collected to recover at home where it is cooler.
To help us keep your little ones safe, please continue to send them in with:
· Light, loose-fitting clothing
· A sun hat that covers the back of the neck
· A named bottle of sunscreen (SPF 30 or above)
· A labelled water bottle
We know this is far from ideal, and we are so grateful for your understanding and flexibility. Decisions like these are never taken lightly – they are made entirely with your children’s wellbeing at heart. Please do not hesitate to speak to a member of the team if you have any worries at all.
Thank you, as always, for your support and trust.
Warm regards,
The Little Acorns Team
