Taking a last minute holiday with the kids

From 14th August, it’s going to be very busy for us.

I say I take the whole summer holidays off so I can spend time with the family, although I don’t do any client work during this time, I do however work on my own business.

Taking the time to reflect on the last 12 months, what’s working well and what needs adjusting.

Well the next few weeks are going to be very busy working behind the scenes, both with CS Copywriting Services and my other company.

So when my brother offered me a few days away at the caravan, I jumped at the opportunity!!

For the next few days we will be riding our bikes, swimming, reading, colouring, playing games, and just chilling out.

It’s that time of year again…new diary 🥰

I always get a new diary in August. Working within education for 8 years has impacted that.

But I view the new academic year as my refresh.

With the whole of August off to take time with my family, I use this month to look back at the year, what I achieved, what I didn’t, what’s still important, and what’s not.

Some things stay the same and others need to alter.

Tell me, do you swear by a certain diary, or do you mix things up every year? (My diaries sometimes don’t even last a year 😂)

✍️ it’s National Writing Day and I’m here for it

I LOVE writing with pen & paper (sometimes I do use my iPad with the pencil)

As a copywriter, business owner … and a mum, I’ve either got ideas I want to jot down, to-do list, shopping list etc

So today, for National Writing Day, I want to ask you:

Happy National Thank a Teacher Day 🍎📚

I absolutely LOVE learning! Didn't think I'd like teaching, though, until I had my daughter.

Then found out that not only did I like teaching, but I was good at it too 😆

After 7 years in primary education, specialising in Additional Learning Needs, I gave it all up to relocate with my family.

Since then, I started building my copywriting business.

But now I feel the itch to teach coming back. So I've developed something new for my business.

From 3rd July, I'll be launching Content School 🎓

A copywriting membership for business owners 🥳

Each month there will be:
💻 a webinar on content, copywriting, and business strategy, etc
🗒️ templates you can edit, personalise, and use yourself, and
🙋🏼‍♀️ a private Slack community to connect and support

There will also be the opportunity to receive personalised copy feedback to improve clarity, structure, and conversion.

Why does writing your own copy feel so hard?

It’s not that you ‘can’t write’

It’s because:

🔍You’re too close to your business
Ever heard the saying ‘can’t see the wood through the trees’?

🗣️ You’re trying to say everything at once
You know your business inside out. And it all makes sense to you. But for your clients, you need to break it down to smaller chunks.

⁉️ You’re second guessing what your audience needs
Once you start, you’re spiraling into the abyss of wonder.
I wonder what they want to know?
I wonder if they’ll like this?
I wonder. I wonder.

Clear copy usually comes from stepping back, not pushing harder.

Having a second pair of eyes 👀 on your content strategy and copy, really does keep you sane 💛

Before & After: Improving a leaflet

The lovely asked me to take a look at their recent flyer

The original design has all the right ingredient, but shine wasn’t quite sitting clearly

After a few tweaks, we:
- centred a few elements
- made the free entry clearer
- re ordered some wording for fluidity

Same messaging.
Same amazing event.
Just easier to see at a glance.
