This weekend, we will be welcoming alumni from the 1960s back to Swansea University for a special reunion weekend, giving old friends the chance to reconnect, reminisce and revisit the places where so many memories were made.

From returning to our campuses and exploring the beautiful Gower and Mumbles, to catching up over a special reunion dinner, it promises to be a wonderful weekend celebrating friendships and memories that have lasted through the decades.

From football shirt sponsorship to ‘free bet’ promotions, Swansea University research is helping shape the debate around gambling advertising 🎰

Evidence from our Gambling Research, Education and Treatment (GREAT) Centre features prominently in an influential House of Lords report calling for a comprehensive ban on gambling advertising, marketing and sponsorship.

Swansea research also informed key areas of the report, including gambling branding in Premier League broadcasts, ‘free bet’ offers, financial inducements and gambling companies’ use of social media marketing.

Professor Simon Dymond, Director of the GREAT Centre, said: “We are proud our research has played such a central role in shaping the Committee's findings.”

Politics experts at Swansea University have launched a major upgrade to Horse Race Politics, a free-to-play website designed to make political forecasting more accessible, engaging and educational.

With more than 30 prediction races planned around the US midterms, users can put their political knowledge to the test, compete with others and learn more about the elections.

This World Pharmacists Day, we’re celebrating a fantastic achievement for Professor Amira Guirguis! 🎓👏

Professor Guirguis has received an Honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Hertfordshire, recognising her outstanding contribution to advancing science, patient care and education, and her work shaping the future of healthcare and pharmacy practice.

An internationally recognised researcher, Professor Guirguis’s work has informed policy, influenced clinical practice and professional education, and advanced understanding of drug-related harms.

During her time at Swansea University, Professor Guirguis also played a pivotal role in establishing our Pharmacy Programme, helping to shape pharmacy education and the future workforce of the profession in Wales.

Congratulations, Professor Guirguis on this fantastic and thoroughly deserved recognition 🎉

How can we help more children attend school regularly? 🎒

Missing school can affect much more than education. Persistent absence can impact young people's health, future employment and life opportunities.

Researchers, including Professor Ann John from Swansea University, have taken a closer look at the approaches that could help improve school attendance, analysing evidence from 61 trials across five countries.

Their findings suggest that working closely with parents and providing consistent mentoring support can make a difference, particularly for younger pupils.
