So exactly one year since Mr Huw's MMM started and it's still going (tutoring 4 wonderful children online each week)- and covid is still very much with us. I hope this finds you all safe and well. 1 year since I got 'zoombombed' too before 'zoombombing' was even a thing - for those who saw it we'll never forget the snake - funny now but pretty worrying at the time 😳! "This time the focus is common mistakes students make in Years 6, 7 and 8 and how to help at home.

I will dive into the 200+ million answers on Diagnostic Questions to find the 5 most common mistakes made by students of each Year. For each mistake I will suggest some free resources and activities that parents can use with their children at home to help them better understand the concept.

The aim is to help parents feel better connected to school mathematics, and reduce the anxiety surrounding supporting their children.

Hello! I just wanted to write a quick post saying I hope all who look at this are coping with this 3rd lockdown, I know it can't be easy. I would love to be offering up some more free Maths lessons but I'm now teaching full time and simply don't have the time, sorry!

It is paid, I don't know how much it is but there's a 14 day free trial. Mr Craig Barton is a bit of a legend. He's the guy who founded 'Eedi' - I used his diagnostic questions during my lessons and I still use them now, they're excellent.
He's also offering free webinars, the first one of the new year is this evening, I'll do a separate post for them.

Quite an emotional last lesson today! Thanks for all your messages and emails, it's been a blast, it really has. Well done to 'everyone' for the star of the week award, Jacob for winning the last wheel of names and to all the parents who made the effort in getting some Maths homeschooling for their children. Today, we explored the 'counting on' method as a strategy for mental subtraction. Betsy nailed it! She did these 'sums' straight after the lesson and was desperate for her mum to send them to me. Brilliant, well done, Betsy. It's stuff like this that has made these lessons so worthwhile. 🤩
