We have had a truly Inspirational Visit to Skills & Training today!! We were incredibly honoured to welcome Rachel Williams (Stand Up to Domestic Abuse - SUTDA) to our centre to speak with our learners about domestic abuse, survival and the importance of leaving abusive relationships.
Rachel is a survivor of 18 years of domestic abuse and In 2011, her former husband entered the hair salon where Rachel was working in Newport, and shot her with a sh***un, leaving her with life-changing injuries. Her abuser then took his own life. Tragically, just six weeks later, Rachelโs 16-year-old son Jack died by su***de following the trauma surrounding the abuse and shooting. Rather than allowing these devastating experiences to silence her, Rachel has dedicated herself to raising awareness, supporting survivors and campaigning for change.
For our learners, having Rachel visit was an incredibly valuable opportunity to hear directly from someone with lived experience. Her openness, honesty and determination helped our young people understand the importance of healthy relationships, recognising abuse, supporting others and knowing that speaking up can make a difference. Most importantly, Rachel showed our learners that even after experiencing unimaginable adversity, it is possible to use your voice to create positive change.
Rachel, thank you for sharing your story, your knowledge and your time with us. Thank you for everything you continue to do to raise awareness, challenge attitudes and advocate for survivors. Your visit was truly inspirational, and we are incredibly grateful that you chose to spend time with our learners. Thank you โค๏ธ

Rachel, diolch i chi am rannu eich stori, eich gwybodaeth a'ch amser gyda ni. Diolch am bopeth rydych chi'n parhau i'w wneud i godi ymwybyddiaeth, herio agweddau ac eiriol dros oroeswyr.
