Today, we celebrate the ultimate superpower: reading. Just like Matilda, when you pick up a book, you are never truly stuck in one place. You can travel anywhere on a wave of pure imagination.

Roald Dahl believed stories should be exciting, funny, and wonderful. Today, the anniversary of his birthday, let's celebrate that magic! Why not grab a book, find a cozy spot, and let a story sweep you away.

The Summer Reading Challenge finishes today!

Well done to all the children (and parent and carers!) who have been taking part in the 2026 Summer Reading Challenge.

The challenge finishes in 2 days time (on Saturday 12th September) and then we'll be getting ready for our reward event. Given that this year's challenge theme is 'Read to the beat', it seems particularly fitting that we will be celebrating with the return of the inflatable disco...but don't forget, if that's not your child's thing, there is also a calm zone for colouring, relaxing and watching movies.

If your child doesn't wish to take part in the reward but has been reading, I would love to celebrate their achievement separately so do let me know.

Once a month, we are lucky to be visited by Swanmore Methodist Church who share 'Open The Book' with us in our whole school Worship. This provides our children with the opportunity to get involved in sharing Bible stories in a fun and accessible way. On Monday, we were visited for the first time this school year; the children loved getting access to the staffroom where they were supported with rehearsing their lines 🙂

Yesterday, Year 1 were very surprised to find that their teddies had all gone missing! They were left a letter from Hoctopize who had also lost his cuddly toy called 'Cuddles'! He asked Year 1 if they could help. The children followed the clues that took them to different areas around the school. They were finally found in Year R. Thank goodness!
