My middle child Harrison aka Hurricane! He’s one resilient, brave, patient, loving, whirlwind of energy and truly amazing little boy 💙
On 14th May 2021 Harrison was admitted to hospital and diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This came as a shock to us all but luckily we caught it super early! Little did we know that on this day our lives would be dramatically altered. We had a long weeks stay in hospital while we had intensive training on how to manage at home. From carb counting all his food, to taking blood sugars, injecting insulin, treating hypoglycaemia and what to do in an emergency! It was so overwhelming back then and being 7 months pregnant with our 3rd child it was a lot!!
Harrison has 100% taken it all in his stride and just gets on with it. We have always made sure that he will not miss out or be held back by his T1 and we know he’ll be able to manage this himself when the time comes.
We are almost 2 years diagnosed and I have to say that it’s so much easier to manage now, especially with his new equipment, dexcom G6 and MiniMedtronic Pump. We can monitor his blood sugars remotely and the pump means 99% so far less injections!
There are still days when it seems so unfair and why us? And days when you just can’t explain why his levels are so off. But I’m so grateful we caught it early, that Harrison has adapted in the best way he can and we still live each day managing positively!
He starts school this September so I’m also grateful I decided not to go back to work and started my online business. This will allow me the freedom and flexibility to be at school to help with their training and also the ability to get to school when and if needed.
We are beyond proud of our little T1 Warrior!💙
If anyone wants to know more about T1 or you are going through something similar, please message, I could be of some support 😊 or interested in getting your freedom back to support your kids? I can help 🙏
