Learn the INWA ten step technique while improving your fitness in a social and fun way whilst enjoying the outdoors. 1-2-, small groups and weekly adult classes available. Nordic Walking is suitable for anyone of any age who can walk unaided. I began Nordic Walking on the advice of a physio to help with osteoarthritis in my spine and knees. Nordic Walking evolved from Cross Country Skiers using walking with poles as summer training. I'm currently on holiday learning to cross country ski. The co-ordination of arms and legs of Nordic Walking is very useful. After one day and one lesson I am like a snail, I can Nordic Walk quicker than I can ski. Stopping is a challenge along with if you stand up straight you tend to fall over backwards! I also keep letting go of my poles 🙂. Good fun, very social, suitable for all ages and abilities. I think I will have gained some extra power in my arms by next week.

On the 22nd day of the Christmas countdown, British Nordic Walking brings to you, Melanie Taylor of Netherseal Nordic Walking in South Derbyshire.

Melanie tells us a bit about herself…

I'm a part-time musician, and volunteer NW Instructor at Rosliston Forestry Centre as well as leading my own Nordic Walks in my community. I enjoy the outdoors, camping and canoeing; and when I'm not out Walking or playing in bands, I also enjoy crafting.

Where are you from and in which area are you leading your Nordic Walks?

I live in Netherseal South Derbyshire and lead walks in South Derbyshire. Which of the many walks you lead is your personal favourite and why? My favourite walk is along my village's tributary of the River Mease. It meanders through two small Woodlands along a footpath through fields with an abundance of wildlife and an ever-changing landscape.

Do you prefer the winter or summer season and why?

I prefer Winter because a walk on a crisp cold morning wakes you up and gets you energised for the day ahead.

Which celebrity would you like to take on a Nordic Walk and why?

I would like to take Sir David Attenborough on a Nordic Walk to discuss the environment, carbon footprints, ecology and how we could educate our walkers about the environment we walk in.

Where would you most like to visit in the world?

I'd like to Nordic Walk in Norway.

What would be your perfect Nordic Walking-related Christmas present?

Gloves.
