Happy Pancake Day Everyone!

We celebrated shrove Tuesday with lots of sweet and savoury pancakes! I also made egg free pancakes to cater for an egg allergy in my setting.

They all went down very well and the crunchie chocolate is the bee’s knees!!

Dino World 🦕 🦖 🌍

One of my littles loves dinosaurs so much. He plays little role play games with them so I made him his very own Dino world where he could take his dinos and use his imagination to his hearts content. He’s loving it!

Morning set up

This was a lovely calm activity for the children to do as they arrived today.

Is there anything better than porridge on a frosty morning?

My littles love porridge. Today it was topped with banana and cinnamon.
Some even had seconds!!

Lego - Lunar New Year - Learning

A lovely activity I’ve done with my littles this week, using as part of our counting.
Recognising the numbers and learning about the mandarin symbols to link into our Lunar New Year learning.
Then counting the correct number of lego blocks into each compartment.

This has been a huge hit. There’s also an opportunity to discuss colours with the Lego bricks too. Lots of hidden learning in a simple set up.

Colour Sorting…

We had a lovely activity today organising the ball pit balls into the bucket with the corresponding colour. This was a lovely opportunity to discuss our colours in a fun way.

Once the buckets were full we counted how many of each colour we had, turning this from a colour activity to a number activity.

I like to teach through play and through the children’s interests. They’re never forced to do an activity as we can incorporate learning into all activities.

I did this with a child under 2yrs today. It was mostly me talking but he was listening and repeating the words back to me.

It wasn’t solely about teaching colours it’s about learning the language which can be used appropriately later on.

This was a real hit!

Thanks for our daily calendar 📅

This is a lovely way of teaching children about numbers, seasons, time and the weather.

There is enough to change on the board each day that everyone gets a turn to change something.

We love it!

We had a few activities this week based around Remembrance Day. The children in my care are under 2 so we didn’t go into detail as they wouldn’t understand or focus for long enough.

Just a couple of books and a nice art and craft activity.

This weeks library haul. We love our weekly trips to the library for rhyme time. We meet lots of friends and clap along to the music.

Afterwards the children pick some books to take home and enjoy for the week.

You’re never too old to learn something new.

One of the children in my care is Turkish. To encourage his learning and language development in both English and Turkish I have made number cards with the written number in both languages.

We made a city of tall towers using the duplo bricks, using our number cards to count in both languages.
