On Wednesday, Third Form cadets embarked on an exciting two-day CCF residential at Mereworth Training Camp, designed to develop teamwork, leadership and resilience.
After arriving at camp, the pupils received a brief introduction before setting up their bashas, which would serve as their accommodation for the night. The afternoon was spent learning and practising military drill, followed by a navigation exercise to help familiarise cadets with the training area ahead of the evening's activities.
As darkness fell, the excitement intensified with a dramatic escape and evasion exercise. Cadets found themselves "captured" before working with friendly forces to evade pursuit and make their escape, all while being tracked by Sixth Form NCOs.
The second day offered a varied programme of activities, including march and drill, observation skills, ration packs, camouflage and concealment, laser shooting, command tasks and archery. The residential concluded with a formal parade, where members of Junior Company were proudly presented with their cadet rank slides and caps in recognition of their achievements.
The trip was a valuable and memorable experience for all involved, providing pupils with opportunities to challenge themselves, build confidence and develop new skills. Our thanks go to the Sixth Form NCOs for sharing their time and expertise, and to the staff whose planning and support ensured the success of the event.
