For nearly 70 years, a Palestinian woman known as Um Ibrahim has not missed a single prayer at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque, a steadfast devotion that has led her to be symbolically called the mosque's daughter.

The genus Calligrapha belongs to the leaf beetle family (Chrysomelidae) and is best known for species whose wing (elytra) markings evoke patterns resembling ink blots or calligraphy. Many Calligrapha beetles are relatively small; for instance, Calligrapha philadelphica is often reported at about 8–9 mm in length.
Their coloration and patterns can vary: pale backgrounds with darker lines, dots or curves are fairly common, giving each species a distinctive look. In both the larval and adult stages, these beetles feed on plants (they are herbivorous).
Some Calligrapha species appear to be host-specialists, meaning they seem to depend heavily on one genus or species of plant. C. philadelphica, for example, is associated with dogwood plants (Cornus spp.).
Because of their striking appearance and their close relationships with particular plants, Calligrapha beetles are often seen as fascinating examples of how insects can adapt and diversify over time.

Eider ducks are large sea ducks renowned for their incredibly soft, warm down, which they pluck from their own bodies to line their nests. Found along the chilly northern coasts of Europe, North America, and Asia, these birds thrive in cold marine environments. Males are especially eye-catching, sporting bold black and white plumage, while the brown, mottled females blend perfectly into their surroundings for protection. Eiders are expert divers, dipping beneath the waves to forage for mussels and other shellfish. Their gentle cooing and soft “ooooh” calls add to their charm, making them as delightful to hear as they are to see—especially with their irresistibly fluffy look!
