11+ Word of the Week: BILLIGERENT

Ever come across an 11+ word and thought, “What does that even mean?”

The language in the 11+ can be really challenging, with unfamiliar and advanced vocabulary appearing in both English and Verbal Reasoning.

Vocabulary makes up around 15% of the test in English and Verbal Reasoning sections, so it’s an area that shouldn’t be overlooked.

At Eleven Plus Success, we help children build their vocabulary every week by exploring meanings, synonyms, antonyms and using new words in context.

Building vocabulary isn’t about memorising endless lists. It’s about developing the confidence to tackle unfamiliar language when it really matters.

We are incredibly proud of Alfie.

Alfie is one of our wonderful Grammar School Student Support Assistants, and we couldn’t be happier to celebrate his achievements.

What makes it even more special is that Alfie first came to me for lessons when he was studying for his own 11+. Fast forward to today, and he’s not only smashing his A Levels, but he has also absolutely smashed the UCAT assessment, the first step on his journey towards training to become a doctor.

It has been amazing to watch his journey from an 11+ student to the young man he is today, and we couldn’t be prouder of everything he is achieving.

Well done, Alfie, from all of us here. We can’t wait to see where your hard work and determination take you.

Tonight, we bid a very fond farewell to our wonderful Year 6 cohort as they prepare to sit their 11+ test on Saturday. ❤️

For some of these incredible young people, their journey with us began way back in Year 3. Over the years, we have watched them grow in confidence, resilience and independence, and it has been a real privilege to see just how far they have come.

Every single one of them has poured their heart and soul into their journey. They have worked tirelessly, challenged themselves, taken responsibility for their own progress and shown an incredible level of commitment and determination along the way.

Tonight was a chance to pause, reflect and celebrate everything they have achieved. They should be immensely proud of themselves — not simply for the result they may achieve in the 11+, but for the effort, perseverance and growth they have demonstrated throughout their time with us.

We always remind our children of something that is so important: an exam can never define who you are. The 11+ is simply one moment in your journey, and it does not measure your kindness, your character, your talents, your friendships, your courage or the wonderful individuals you are becoming.

So, as you face the 11+ test on Saturday, remember how much you have already achieved. Trust yourselves, believe in the work you have put in and, most importantly, be proud of yourselves.

Wishing every one of our amazing Year 6 children the very best of luck for Saturday. ✨

In loving memory of my mum, who fought so bravely against ovarian cancer and sadly lost her fight in July 2026.

Throughout her journey, she faced everything with incredible courage, strength and determination. She wanted to fight this illness in her own way, on her own terms, making the choices that felt right for her. Even during the hardest moments, she remained true to herself.

Her battle was not simply about cancer. It was a testament to the woman she was: strong, independent, courageous and deeply loved. Although her fight came to an end, the love she gave, the memories she created and the strength she showed will remain with us forever.

I will always remember her not for the illness that took her from us, but for the life she lived, the person she was and the courage with which she faced the unimaginable.

In memory of my beautiful mum. Forever loved, forever missed and never forgotten.
