🌟 Join Family Voices at Best Start Family Hub 🌟

At Best Start Family Hub, we believe that parents and carers are the experts in their own family's experiences. Our Family Voices group gives local families the opportunity to share their views, ideas and feedback to help shape and improve services for children, parents and carers.

Family Voices is a welcoming and informal way for families to come together, meet other local parents and help influence the support available within their community. Through Family Voices, families across Hodge Hill, Sutton Coldfield, Erdington and Perry Barr have taken part in a range of activities and discussions including:

> Community events and celebrations
> Arts and crafts activities
> Sharing views on local services and community issues
> Paediatric first aid sessions
> Mental health and emotional wellbeing discussions
> Healthy eating workshops
> Reading and early literacy awareness sessions
> Consultations to help shape Family Hub services

We are always looking for more parents, carers and family members to get involved. Whether you have used our services recently, are expecting a baby, or have young children, your experiences and ideas can help make a real difference for families in our community.

We recently shared the exciting news that Our Place Support will be working with Sutton Coldfield Charitable Trust on the consultation and future delivery of a new community facility for Falcon Lodge.

Falcon Lodge Community Centre has been closed since 2024 and has been very much missed. Sutton Coldfield Charitable Trust is now purchasing the site, with plans for a new purpose-built community facility, and we’re pleased to be leading the community consultation to make sure local people help shape the new facility.

Over the coming months, we want to hear from as many people connected to Falcon Lodge as possible. We're keen to know what people valued about the old centre, what is missing locally now, and what you would like to see in a new community facility. Thanks to Pride in Place funding, there will be lots of ways to get involved, including community events, coffee mornings and creative activities as well as an online survey.

We’ll be out and about across Falcon Lodge speaking with residents, local organisations, businesses, churches and community groups as well as working with local schools.

Keep an eye on our social media and website for the online survey, event dates and more opportunities to have your say.

If you’re a parent, carer or guardian of a little one aged 0–4, come and spend the morning with us at Fun Factory at Ark Community Church.

It’s two hours created with both little people and their grown-ups in mind.

There’s space for children to play, explore, make friends and have fun... while parents, grandparents, carers, and guardians get the chance to meet other adults, have a conversation and become part of a friendly local community.

If walking into a new toddler group feels a little daunting, you won't be expected to already know anybody, but come through the door anyway and we’ll be pleased to see you.

Whether you’ve recently become a parent, you’re new to the area, you’re caring for grandchildren, or you simply need somewhere welcoming to bring your pre-schooler on a Thursday morning, Fun Factory is for you too.

A Huge Thank You to Simply School Supplies! 🌟

Over the summer, we were delighted to support Simply School Supplies with a series of school uniform pop-up events across our Spurgeon-run Birmingham Best Start Family Hubs.

Families were able to access support at Lakeside, Dyson Gardens, Kitts Green, Castle Vale and Rookery Best Start Family Hubs, with an additional pop-up hosted at Falcon Lodge Methodist Church.

Thanks to the incredible generosity and dedication of Simply School Supplies, 1,050 children received school uniform support this summer, helping families prepare for the new school year with confidence.

👏 Thank you to everyone involved in making these events such a success and for supporting children and families across our communities.

This week's Play & Learn session at Emmanuel Church focused on healthy food and nutrition.

We explored the importance of making healthy food choices through fun, engaging, and age-appropriate activities.

The children enjoyed a targeted creative activity using fruit printing and glue-sticking techniques to create colourful food-themed artwork. These hands-on activities helped develop their creativity, fine motor skills, and understanding of different fruits and healthy eating.

We also introduced two of our Startwell characters, 2 Snack Max's and Fay 5 a Day, who helped promote healthy eating messages in a fun and interactive way.

The children enjoyed learning about making healthy choices and recognising foods that help our bodies grow strong and healthy.

It was wonderful to see the children learning through play, exploring new textures, colours, and shapes while having lots of fun together.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and we look forward to seeing you at our next session!
