It's been an important time for my 11+ students who have smashed it this week with a great set of exam scores. Huge congratulations and best wishes for the exciting times ahead.

1-1 and small group tuition for all secondary maths including GCSE . Also small group 11+ tuition. Contact me to find out more.
Learning in schools and colleges has been significantly disrupted in recent times, despite the amazing work of teachers. It is widely recognised that young people need extra support and guidance to keep them on track.
Operating as usual
I couldn't let this day pass without congratulating my own amazing students who, despite all of the crazy disruptions, have all done incredibly well. So, so happy for them as they move on to their next steps.
The wait is nearly over. After an intense exam season, the class of 2022 will be collecting their GCSE exam results tomorrow. We wish them all the best!
Calling Y7 - new Y11 parents. Students across the UK are currently enjoying their summer holidays, but if the end of year school based exam results were not quite as good as you'd hoped, some maths tuition may be the answer.
Maths GCSEs are finally underway and I will be saying goodbye to some students in the next couple of weeks, as they'll have finished their exams. If your child would like extra support with any aspect of secondary school maths, please contact me as I will have some availability in three weeks' time. Meanwhile, good luck to everyone taking exams. It's been ages since GCSEs were externally marked, so this year's cohort are pretty special.
There's still time! You're invited!
This is often a time when Y11 students have a bit of a wobble. For anyone who'd like some targeted support with the last leg of GCSE maths revision, I'm here. Mastering a couple of extra topics and increasing confidence can make a real difference. The Easter holiday is a great time to tackle some of those knowledge gaps.
GCSEs are just around the corner. It's time for that final push! I am running GCSE maths mock exam sessions for very small groups. All professionally marked and full feedback will be given. Every mistake now should mean an extra mark next time, as long as you go through worked solutions and understand where you went wrong. And that's exactly what I do with students. This is an opportunity for Y10 students to stay a step ahead too. Contact Sarah McDonald Tutoring or call 07487 351526 to find out more.

Good news! Exam boards have released advance information on what GCSE exams will cover to help students focus their revision and exam preparation. It all helps!
Finally the schools are back, so here's a little trigonometry to get you thinking. Remember, even if you think you can't, you probably can!
Even if you think you're no good at maths, it doesn't mean you are or that you can't improve. So, it's Number Confidence Week.
Our teachers do an amazing job and we all have a greater appreciation of how tough that is. Not only do they educate our children, they also build their confidence.
2022 is considered to be a transition year in terms of exams. Advance information for summer exams will be given in early February to help students plan their revision. Also grade boundaries will be adjusted to reflect a midway point between 2021 and 2019.
What a crazy week! According to BBC News petrol prices have hit an 8 year high, so in an attempt to keep things topical, here's a quick imperial/metric conversion to tackle...
So it's goodbye to Gavin Williamson and hello to Nadhim Zahawi. I just read on Twitter that Larry the No 10 cat turned it down.

Maths isn't everyone's cup of tea and some students have to work harder than others to master those essential skills. Practice doesn't always mean perfect, but it can help.
For some the journey to achieve GCSEs has recently ended. Others are just setting out. Some are thriving and some are just plain confused. Book now for a September place for any help with secondary maths.

Calling Year 5 parents... If you are thinking of 11+ tuition for your child, now is the time to book for a September start. Look no further, give me a call.
Schools are about to break up and it's been a challenge right up to the end of term for lots of different reasons. Between now and September, it's definitely worth booking a few 1-1 catch up secondary maths sessions to identify any knowledge gaps and to get a bit of a head start for the new academic year. This can be really flexible to suit other summer holiday plans.
It's that time of year! I'm offering a maths summer school during July and August. Book now to top up those skills and bridge any gaps before you take your next step. One or two 1-1 sessions a week. 45 minutes or an hour. You decide what best fits with your summer plans. This is a great option to give you that edge...
Revising isn't everyone's activity of choice and maths isn't always a firm favourite, but you'd be surprised at how quickly that can change when you broaden your understanding and start to master the key concepts. With the right support, learning can be fun and once you start enjoying it, confidence grows and there are no limits to the progress that can be made.
Teachers and students have coped well with 'the big catch up', but Research from the Education Policy Institute due to be released shortly shows that despite making some progress to recover during the autumn term, on average pupils were similarly far behind expectations in March 2021 after closures early this year, as they were in September 2020 - underscoring the importance of being back in the classroom with excellent teachers and the need for further action to prevent losses compounding further. Give me a call on 07487 351526 to discuss some summer holiday ideas...
We're well into revision season now and a lot of young people are revising for exams in what's been a crazy year. If you would like some help with any secondary maths work that you've covered in school or while learning remotely, please get in touch Sarah McDonald Tutoring or 07487 351526
This week a consultation was launched seeking views on how flexi-job apprenticeship schemes will work. We know how popular apprenticeships are with employers, but don’t forget, apprentices will still need to show evidence of capabilities in maths and English. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/consultation-launched-to-create-new-flexible-apprenticeships. I can help with all aspects of secondary maths up to and including GCSE.

Some more information has been shared by the Department for Education on how grades will be calculated for the formal exams this summer. We’re approaching revision season and algebra keeps cropping up. YouTube has some great worked examples. Once you understand those model answers, it’s often a matter of practise, practise, practise and working hard to increase your confidence. Meanwhile, have a look at these simultaneous equations and see what you think.
We tend to think that maths is about numbers, but it’s also about the ability to follow patterns, think logically, apply a bit of common sense and everyone's favourite - problem solving. Here’s an article from the Independent from last year, it’s still a fascinating read. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/education/maths-sums-thinking-early-years-development-children-education-a9396621.html
