The Marist community would like to offer our condolences to the Cockerham family on the passing of Margot Cockerham, known to many of you as Madame Cockerham. Madame Cockerham taught French at The Marist from 1968-1972 and then from 1979 until her retirement in 2002. She also taught English during her earlier years at the school.

During her 30 years at The Marist, she was much loved amongst the students and she made many firm friends amongst her colleagues; and after retirement, she joined a fellow-Marist retirees book club and enjoyed meeting up with the ladies regularly.

We will remember her fondly.

Thank you to all those who attended our Alumnae Christmas Drinks Reception. It was wonderful to welcome guests back and great to witness the delight of old friends catching up! Thank you to Mrs Simmons for her welcome speech and to the staff who joined us on our tours, whilst we enjoyed a glass of fizz and delicious nibbles.

The Girls' Schools Association are examining the benefit of girls’ schools and how they unleash the potential of young women today through an in depth research project. They are keen to gather feedback from pupils, parents, staff and alumnae. Please do take part in this land mark survey here: https://impacted.typeform.com/GSAalumnae

💪 Developing confidence and emotional intelligence in young people is at the heart of a good education.

Research from the Girls' Schools Association (GSA) reveals that girls in girls' schools are more confident and rounded individuals than girls in other schools. Young women in girls' schools are also better at self regulating their emotions, in comparison to girls in co-ed schools.

GSA's currently marking its 150th anniversary, and has a live research project looking at the intergenerational benefits of girls’ schools for girls and women. This landmark study invites all girls’ schools’ teachers, pupils, parents and alumnae to tell us what a girls’ school really means to them today. Are you one of them?

We wanted to let you know about two exciting Marist alumnae events.

With just under three weeks to go, we would be delighted if you and your family could join us for our fun 10k 'Walk for Nekemte' on Sunday 20th October. We are supporting our long-term charity project raising funds for a new school in Nekemte, Ethiopia, in partnership with Sacred Heart Church in Sunningdale.

The route will start at The Marist, walking through our woodland, heading out into the country lanes and fields, cross country to the Golden Gates leading to New Mile Course and on to Ascot Racecourse. The walk runs through the racecourse tunnel so we can stop to admire Marist winners of the Royal Ascot Art Competition. Walkers will loop the track before returning to The Marist for a participant’s medal and goodie bag! We will have food and refreshments; everyone is welcome, including well behaved dogs!
