Our amazing students have officially earned a Bronze Award in the 2026 Wildlife Gardens Awards, presented by The Climate Partnership! πŸ†πŸŒ±
This incredible achievement recognises the hard work, muddy hands, and dedication our students poured into transform our school environment into a thriving sanctuary for local wildlife.
Over the past months, they have:
🌻 Planted extensive patches of beautiful, pollinator-friendly flowers.
πŸ¦” Built safe, welcoming habitats for local hedgehogs.
🐦 Kept our neighbourhood birds happy, fed, and watered.
πŸ₯¦ Shared the harvest by distributing fresh fruit and vegetables to our school community - all grown completely chemical-free using sustainable, peat-free compost!
We are so incredibly proud of their commitment to a greener, healthier future. A massive thank you to everyone who supported their efforts! Keep an eye on our garden - we are just getting started! πŸŒπŸ’š

Celebrating Innovation: Charters School Achieves AiEd Explorer Level Certification! πŸš€πŸ€–

We are thrilled to formally announce that Charters School has achieved the Explorer Level in the AI in Education (AiEd) Certified Framework!

This fantastic achievement recognises our team's dedication to the responsible, ethical, and purpose-driven exploration of AI within our school community. At the Explorer level, our focus has been on building strong, reliable foundations - developing a shared understanding of AI's potential, identifying key opportunities, and initiating safe, context-appropriate practices for our students and staff.
The assessors commended our reflective, evidence-gathering approach, noting that Charters has demonstrated clear momentum and a incredibly thoughtful start to our AI journey.

Our new certification is valid for the next three years, giving us a brilliant launchpad to eventually progress to the Practitioner level when the time is right.

Thank you to all the staff and partners who made this possible. We look forward to continuing our partnership with AI in Education as we navigate the exciting future of learning! πŸŽ“βœ¨

🌍 Thinking globally at Model United Nations COP31

Our students recently took part in a Model United Nations COP31 event at Wellington College, representing different countries and working collaboratively to negotiate climate agreements.

This was a fantastic opportunity, allowing students to think more broadly around their Humanities subjects and explore how classroom learning connects to real-world challenges. Through this immersive Mock COP simulation, they gained insight into climate diplomacy, negotiation and the complexities of finding solutions to global issues.

Enrichment experiences like this encourage our students to look beyond the curriculum, question different perspectives and develop the critical thinking, reasoning and collaboration skills they will need for the future.

πŸ‘ Our sincere thanks to Miss Barrett for leading this valuable trip, and to the students who represented Charters School so beautifully. They were fantastic ambassadors for our school!

Esther Chidlow, a Mathematics and Philosophy graduate now working with The Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics (OCCA), spoke with our Sixth Form students this week about Artificial Intelligence, God, and Humanity 🧠✨

Opening with a nod to Disney's 1940 classic The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Esther posed a vital question: Could AI, designed to help us, spin out of control just like the apprentice's spell? πŸͺ„πŸ§™β€β™‚οΈ She explained that AI is a neural network growing around a digital frameworkβ€”learning how to learn through trial and error.

While highlighting AI's immense potentialβ€”from accelerating cancer research to tailoring recipesβ€”Esther challenged students to consider its double-edged nature. AI frees up our time, but we risk losing our capacity for independent thought. She also warned that AI can act as a mirror, reflecting and amplifying the prejudices of a broken society πŸͺž

Ultimately, Esther urged students to ask: What makes us human, and what were we made for? πŸ—ΊοΈ She concluded through a Christian perspective of humanity's fourfold journey: Created, Broken, Rescued, and Restored, reminding us that a tech-utopia cannot save us, and true security is found in God, not algorithms.
Following the presentation, students shared insightful views, raising critical questions about AI's threat to human imagination and its significant environmental costs, such as the energy required to cool data centres 🌍🌱

When asked how she personally uses AI, Esther shared that she treats it as an administrative asset for gathering research, but always analyses the data herself to form independent conclusions πŸ“š

The thought-provoking lecture series thoroughly enthralled the entire cohort. Charters School extends its sincere thanks to Esther Chidlow for her time, and to Ms Grant-Miller, Head of Philosophy and Ethics, for arranging this invaluable event! πŸ€πŸŽ“

We were delighted to welcome Peter Radford back to Charters School this week to deliver his annual workshops on misogyny, masculinity, and consent to our Year 10 and Year 12 students.

Building on the success of last year's sessions, Peter guided our students through thought-provoking discussions challenging gender stereotypes, unconscious bias, and everyday language. The interactive sessions focused on crucial topics including systemic discrimination, power and consent, media representation, and the profound impact of words used "in jest."

These workshops emphasise that understanding our biases is not about blame, but about awareness and growth.
Thank you, Peter, for helping our students develop the insight and compassion needed to ensure respect and equality remain at the heart of our school community.
